origami eyes

Post by mydp »

 I was just wondering if anybody else is getting the same reaction that I'm getting lately. I've been folding a lot of animal origami and when I finish people usually say wow that's great but recently I've been having people ask me "where are the eyes." This is a new thing for me and it's amazing to me that people see the model and say wow that's great and then the next thing out of their mouth is "where are the eyes?". Just wondering what everyine else thougt. :?

Never happened also to me.

I think eyes are not always so important.
I mean, you can do your origami model as much real as you can, but it will always be a simplification of the reality (talking about "eyes" it obvious that I'm referring to being creatures  ).
So the origami model, to be good, has to identify and reproduce the very main features of its inspiration object. In this way, it could happens that eyes may not be one of those key features, and then it is quite useless to add them.

Anyway if you can and if you wish to do a realistic model, it is definitively better to add any details you are able to put in it :)

No, I have never been asked. But it is true that when the animal is simple, head and tail looks similar due to some symmetry considerations, so drawing the eyes helps people unconsciously break the symmetry. That makes the model more aesthetic. Of course it would more elegant to add the eyes by folding.

Thanks to this topic I've realize that my last creation would difinitively be improved by adding eyes.
And I've added them
