Subtitles for videos

General discussion about Origami, Papers, Diagramming, ...

Do you think subtitling instructional videos is a good idea?

Yes, definitely. Not everyone is fluent in English, and some of us have hearing disabilities.

It's a nice idea, but not worth the effort.

No, subtitles just distract from the video.

I don't care either way, or you didn't list my answer above.

Good to hear, can you please send me your email address via PM?

Also, Finnish subtitles are under way. The first part already has them added: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKep3zvKicI

I'm really happy to see that others are willing to help, so thanks to all of you!

Will the subtitle be British English (BE) or American English (AE)? I'm familiar with BE but I think I'd be better to use AE because it's more worldwide used. Words like "manoeuvre" and "maneuver" are the same, they're BE and AE.

P.S. I'm Thai.
Perfect videos, Sara!

Ah, well, I'd say there are only few differences in BE and AE subtitles. I only use a very limited vocabulary. Also, I think anyone who understands AE will be able to ... cope with ... BE. ;)
And yes, I guess I'm probably using the BE spelling on words like "colour" .. or for those that have trouble with BE: "color".

I studied AE ant English school but can understand your BE with German accent without problems.

BTW, Portuguese subtitles are coming, I swear, but I'm a little busy at the moment; I'm studying for an exam

For me, it is not easy to identify whether a person is American or British (perhaps because I'm Thai) but I know AE and BE grammar quite well, because I've chosen what type of English I use, and it's British English.
