Teaching a Class - Fold Suggestions Needed!

Post by notefolds »

I've been asked to teach a folding class to the general public at the state zoo for the opening of their new tiger exhibit. I've taught many school classes, but those are easy since there are only 20-30 kids, and it's only an hour. This class will be thousands over a six hour time span.

Has anyone taught such a large group? Does anyone have suggestions for easy folds somewhat zoo related? I've checked http://en.origami-club.com/index.html but so far haven't found anything that jumps out at me.

Thanks for your help, and I'll be sure to post a follow up and photos after the opening.

Sorry I don't have suggestions for you. I just wanted to say that sounds exhausting and I'm looking forward to your follow-up. :P

Because it's for the opening of a tiger exhibit, why not the traditional, simple cat head (and call it a tiger head)? The kids can then color it appropriately. Or is that too simple?

in the light of recent developments you could teach them the traditional crane. if they're going to fold just two of them there's one to keep for good and one for a thousand-crane-collection to dedicate or maybe send to the japanese disaster victims. when there are thousands of visitors taking part in your lessons this event could become a nice gesture of sympathy and solidarity.

Sorry, all the tigers I know how to fold are advanced, and I don't think little kids will be able to fold an advanced tiger :)

Although I do know a panther/tiger mask by Jun Maekawa, it's difficulty is plain intermediate. It's in the book Genuine Origami though. Hope that helps!
