It was something like that for me, as well. ^^ I read a story about someone making a thousand cranes while someone else was in a coma. It was a really beautiful story and the image of the myth was used quite well and it was not as sad as the story of the girl in Hiroshima, which I only learned of later.chesscuber98 wrote:I heard of the thousand cranes Myth .

Since then I was in love with the idea. I only started actually doing it a few weeks backs. It was like the time had finally come for me. I don't know whether it's practical to have 1000 cranes flying around my flat, so I'm also starting to do other models. It's so relaxing.

Re: what got you into origami?
Oh, this is a great topic... I just wrote a post about my intro to origami titled "Searching for the Origami Illustration that changed my life" -- please check it out. I need everyone's help!
So for me it was actually a drawing of an origami crane that I saw when I was 5 and it fascinated me so much that I couldn't stop copying it with my own drawing. Finally I saw an actual folded crane and only then learned what I was drawing was origami. Then I couldn't stop folding. I fell in love with origami and then Japan. I love the work of Michael LaFosse, Satoshi Kamiya, Akira Yoshizawa and many others but I still think the traditional origami crane is the greatest masterpiece of all origami.

On valentine's day, when i was younger, my parents used to give my brother and I a little present. When I was in second grade, on valentine's day, my parents gave me an origami klutz book. from there, I got hooked.

BOREDOM in computer class back middle school, because we were working on those annoying typing exercises that try to make you type faster/better, and I got done 30 minutes ahead of schedule.
So I looked up dev.origami and started folding. Then it just kind of grew into a hobby to ease boredom.

A tiny place to post my things. Enjoy~

Re: what got you into origami?
It was my mothers fault. When I was seven years old she bought me an origami book to keep me quiet. It worked so everytime she saw one she bought it. That was 43 years ago and I have been a nerd ever since!

I am an advanced sleight of hand card magician for over 40 years. I started in origami over 35 years ago when I discovered that harbin and neal elias were into origami. while I attended a few card conventions with elias, we never discussed origami only cards. sy engfield another card giant was also into origami. origami and card magic have a close relationship

Origami is like food. You can love it and be obese. Or you can hate it and be and be a"cute". Or you can be a fail and your just that. A fail. Flickr : http://www.flickr.com/photos/76647015@N08/?saved=1
Re: what got you into origami?
I got an origami kit for Noah's ark, with patterned paper and instructions for four-piece animals with lots of cuts (NOT purism!) for Xmas when I was 6.
Later, I got a book for more animals and some flowers, this time all from one piece but with cuts.
I could have lived on this book forever, and only folded models from it for FOUR YEARS.
Unfortunately, one day when I had brought it to school, someone stole it from me, but I wasn't able to prove it
.
My dad said he would buy me another copy if I could find one on the internet. Since my book was called Origami Animals, I luckily stumbled across http://www.fishgoth.com/origami/, and folded the anklyosaurus!
(I messed up real bad on it). Then I folded the triceratops, managed to do it OK, and then I was hooked.

Once my cousin taught me how to make X-Wing at school. I forgot about it until a few years later and here I am.

Re: what got you into origami?
Ive been a magician for most my life. One day I came up with an idea for a routine involving a paper folding itself as I spoke. I thought it would be a good idea to get familiar with origami techniques to help me with the design of the routine. That was about a year ago, since then I have been going pretty far into this world of folding paper... And I LOVE it!
Re: what got you into origami?
There are many, many magicians who have contributed to Origami, including Houdini, Robert Harbin, Robert Neale, and even Jeremy Shafer.
Re: what got you into origami?
I will have to look up their work!
I think I remember reading Neal Elias was a magician himself and he created some of my favorite designs. I also heard Robert Lang lectured at a magic convention a while back. I think there is a lot of potential both ways, exciting stuff!
