Hi,
Anyone attending this convention? It looks very interesting but I'm not sure what to expect.
Personally I would like to go for the fun and for meeting other folders, but also to progress and advance as a folder myself.
Maybe I could get some feedback before I decide to go. How valuable would you consider a convention to be? How much of a learning experience have past conventions been for you?
All the best,
N

Re: Ultimate origami convention - Lyon 2012
The convention in 2011 was really focused on complex Origami with long classes, folding from CPs and so on. A special highlight for me was meeting Fernando Gilgado who is not only a very good folder but overall a really nice guy. In comparison to the first meeting some years ago they made good progress in making the meetings more friendly to non-French people, so that I can actually recommend them. There have also been talks that seemed to be very interesting but I couldn't attend because of a sudden illness.
One thing I missed at the convention was a big folding room where you could just sit together all the time to fold and talk outside of the classes. The class rooms that also hosted the exhibition where locked up at the times when no classes where held.
So if you are going to the convention to learn fold complex models, this is the right convention for you. If you prefer sitting around with other folders chatting and maybe folding something informal (my preferred part on conventions), you can have this, but you have to find a fitting space as there is no big folding room, what can be a bit hard at times, especially if you are in a bigger group. There may be other conventions that fit the bill better if you prefer this. Also keep in mind that this convention is aimed at complex folders, so don't expect modular boxes to be taught.
All in all it is a good convention concept that could be even better if there would be a big free folding space.
