I've been influenced by Kunihiko Kasahara, David Brill, and John Montroll. What about yourselves?

Probably Robert Lang, Satoshi Kamiya, Brian Chan, Petr Stuchly (Sorry if I butchered your name), and others who I'm too lazy to think of.
But honestly, I think all folders develop a single hybrid style of whoever they idolize in the art. And this depends on where a given folder "learned" certain techniques, etc.

The most influential artist for me has been Joseph Wu. I have yet to actually fold one of his models, but I notice that a lot of my models follow Wu's "paper is the skin wrapped around air as the bones" philosophy. He always finds different ways to fold a body part or feature, and I strive to do that myself.

Runners up would be Hideo Komatsu and Roman Diaz.

Petr Stuchly! He has taught me the beauty of designing, and I wouldn't have gotten here without him. His work is also fantastic, and he designs some of the most complex figures I've ever seen: http://www.flickr.com/photos/petr-stuchly/

I've folded Joseph Wu's armadillo a few times and I see what you mean. The model is hollow. It gives it more shape, though. More of the paper can be used for other parts of the creation, instead of the body itself.
