Hey there!!

Can anybody tell me something about wetfolding and why it's useful ?

Hello!

You wet the paper, fold the model, fix it in position and wait when it dries. Than it is like a sculpture - strong and stable. You also can wet just special part, f.e. back, to fix the model in close-look or in special position. The 3D plastic models are very good for this method, f.e. models of Dave Brill.

I fold the the model first, then I just keep the model under the crane in the kitchen, then I use some Painterstape and rubberbands to keep the model in the desired shape, just let it dry overnight.

Keep in mind you can only do this with thicker papers, like elephant hide, or canson.

When you fold a model dry, then shape it wet, its called wet finishing. Besides making it like a statue, it helps thin down flaps, like an insects legs, so that it stays thin. Oh and also t hlps give models soft rounded shape.
