I've read somewhere (maybe on this forum) that you're just supposed to add glue until the mixture has the consistency of syrup. Granted, that's not very specific, but I've found that this standard works OK.
The ideal proportion of glue and water may depend on the brand of glue and the mineral contents of your water. Don't quote me on the second condition; I'm not quite sure about that, but it seems to make sense.
