See the new Smithsonian?

Did anybody catch the article on Robert J. Lang in the recent edition of Smithsonian magazine? It didn't include anything I'd consider new but overall it's nice to see him get more recognition. However, I wasn't aware of a new book, now a work in progress.
Does anybody know anything about it?

Sweeet! A new book? I kinda had a hopeful feeling that he was working on a book becaues he hasn't updated his website in a while, so I figured he was busy on some kind of big project. I'm so exited
I'm just finishing folding the last couple models in Design Secrets, and am thinking about trying to pick up origami insects 2. this is really cool.

I still need to fold the BFCC, but I've been lazy about making a 10x1 rectangle and adding in those reference points...

Hah I know what you mean Joe. There was a photo of his clock in the article and I was inspired to fold one too but I've been lazy about that too.... and aside from trying to finish another 180 cranes...
Were the diagrams in Design Secrets unreleased or nonexistent before the book was published? Because I'm really looking forward to folding some fresh models by him.

Everything in ODS besides maybe the Baby, Alamo Stallion, and Turtle were unpublished previously. Those three coming from and OUSA Annual Collection, The Russian Origami Society Web Site, and Origami Zoo respectively I believe. They're very nice models, and those found in here and Origami insects II are different from most of his other published work.

As far as I can recall, some of his models (Like the bull moose) Were already published. However, I may be wrong. I don't know the date that Design Secrets was released as compared to the tanteidan magazine with the bull moose.

That article is the reason I am on this forum. I had not done or thought about origami since I was a kid. When I saw Lang's creations, I became determined to learn how to fold them. It will take a long time to get that good, as I am starting from scratch. Even farther down the road, I hope to design.

Oh man I heard about the new book and I am really looking forward to it. ODS is like the origami bible for designing. Cant wait!

He said he was going to make a sort of sequel to ODS in some article-I forget exactly where I saw it.

I wish I could tell you which Smithsonian magazine issue it was but I'd have to dig around for it. Maybe it's online somewhere...? It'll probably be at least a few months before he says anything else about it, but for sure, he's working on one.

I just got a new subscription to Nature Magazine and lo and behold, origami comes up once again.
It's brief but nonetheless origami related.

a new book soon wouldn't be that hard to imagine from lang, much like hideo komatsu. the fact of the matter is is that both authors have multiple diagrams in different places--and if they consolidated them, there is definitely enough material for a book. how much previously unpublished material is in it is the real question, imho.
