Ideas for decorating a girls room with Origami?

It's for a GF and I wanna do something really sweet. I was thinking I could make a vase of some kind of simple flowers but what are some other good ideas? Hanging cranes? Maybe decorate the lightning fixtures somehow?

Any ideas would be REALLY appreciated because I know how great you guys all are with Origami I just need some inspiration!

well I think depends on what she likes. Once I filled her bed with origami roses and it worked perfectly; only after she didn't know what to do with all the flowers, because she didn't want to throw them, so she putted them in a bag occupying a huge space on her closet, until she realized, kept a couple and threw them.

If she likes cats, make her a family of them, or if she likes elephants, make her a huge one. I suggest anyway a very colourful and metalized figure.

Cockroaches. Lots and lots of cockroaches. Spiders too. Go to http://www.langorigami.com to the crease pattern section, and you can find a couple different spiders.

I think that by asking us for ideas you are losing all the merit in this one, but oh well...

@topic:

Roses will work fine. If you know what kind of flower she likes the most, try to fold them, too. Kusudamas are a great idea, but be sure to pay attention in the making.

More importantly: buy her chocolate!

I had a lady co-worker who would have loved seeing origami roaches, spiders and scorpions.

Anyway, just base the stuff you'll be folding on her personality. That ought to work well.

Making cutesie-wootsie stuff won't hurt either. (e.g. a family of ducks, a small farm complete with sheep, goat, cow, etc.)

If you need to know where to find these things, Toshikazu Kawasaki has some excellent rose designs that you can find in "Origami for the Connoisseur" and "Roses, Origami and Math". John Montroll has some great intermediate animal designs if you decide on a family of ducks or a farm of animals or something like that-check out his books online to find a list of models for each one.

Another thing that might be good, depending on your GF's tastes, is different kinds of birds-peacocks, doves, cranes(?), etc. Good luck!

I would say keep it simple and romantic, not overblown. A single flower in a simple vase (elegantly folded, of course) will convey your feelings quite nicely.
Give her a whole room full of origami, and she might think that you are a total geek. Just my $.02.

Well, there are two different mentalities here-something small, yet very sweet and thoughtful can be very romantic and affective. Something large and amazing in that it is a heroic feat (you get the idea) can also work. It is just personal preference. Thoughts vs. actions, I guess-both are important in their own ways, but individual people tend to still prefer one over the other.

I once folded Dave Brill's Fairy and made a customized portrait box out of expensive hardwood to display it in and hung it on her bedroom wall. I sorta wished she'd give it back when we broke up!!!

I hope Hamilton is still checking this thread. It'd be a shame that his relationship ends because he hasn't used any of these ideas, hahaha.

Well, the whole thing came out pretty nice. I think I appreciated it more than she did. Anyway, she told me that it would have been better if it was my own design anyway... So Hamilton, I guess you better design your own thing for her. (but dont make too much of an effort)!!! Just joking.
