This is one of my favorite models. I work for the Post Office, and these have been great giveaways for customers who visit my counter. However, when I fold them, I get horrible paper shift in the legs, and sometimes the head splits down the middle when I'm folding it in half. Any tips or suggestions on how I can minimize this?

To prevent the head from splitting, there's two things you can do:
1) Use thinner paper.
2) Stick a piece of tape along the middle of the head to strengthen the paper, on the underside where it can't be seen.
Using thinner paper might help with the paper shift in the legs too.

I'll see if I can't dig up some thinner paper somewhere. Right now I am using plain old standarad origami paper...nothing special, the same stuff you can get at any craft store.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Glad you like it, but it really is a flawed early design. The head is simply too many layers thick, resulting in the tendency to split.
