Average Time for Kamiya to Respond?
I was looking online for help with Ryujin, and stumbled upon an article that was pretty much as close to diagrams you can get without making diagrams. I definitely wanted to use it, but I wasn't sure if I should, so I shot Mr. Kamiya an Email regarding permission to use it. Has anyone sent him a message? If so, about how long did it take him to respond? (Obviously) I really want to fold this, but I'm not sure how feasible it will be to do in college.
Danggit! This sounds slightly like I'm badmouthing him! I hate how I can be so terrible with words!

Kamiya is not the patron saint of origami. In fact, I've heard he can be kind of a jerk. Just use the diagrams, and tell me where you found them

Re: Average Time for Kamiya to Respond?
so just (when I finish designing my snake lol) use them to make Ryujin?
Also, 1-10 how much of a jerk can he be? 1-"ask, and ye shall receive" 10-f*** you
EDIT: And, whilst we're at it, where would Mr. Lang rank?

Re: Average Time for Kamiya to Respond?
Not really that mean, probably a 4. And Robert Lang is a very nice guy, he sometimes visits this forum and shares some tips. And don't quote me on anything I say about SK, they're just on second hand stories I've heard. He might be a nice guy, I haven't personally met him.

Re: Average Time for Kamiya to Respond?
robert lang is the nicest person ever! ive emailed him lots of times to interview him for school and to ask permission for videos (which he gave me) my uncle also emails him a lot.
and i doubt satoshi is really a jerk. i think maybe he just gets pissed at getting millions of emails every day about the ryujin.

Re: Average Time for Kamiya to Respond?
Something I forgot to add as to why I'm a little unsure about using the file: it has a CP in it. I'm not sure if it's a fan-made or authentic, but that's the make-or-break point for me, because as far as I remember, he didn't make 2.1 publicly available. Time to check his site!
Just checked the site, it appears 2.1 (Which this document covers) *is* available on his site, but 3.1+ aren't. If only I would've looked before asking him, I wouldn't have sounded like a total idiot. Well, I'm not sure. If he *would* say yes, would it be OK for me to post the link to the semi-photodiagrams, or just keep them private. Gah!! So many things going through my head about this, on top of thoughts about the snake I'm working one!!

Re: Average Time for Kamiya to Respond?
I heard a story from Tadashi Mori that when he went to Origami House in Japan to ask SK about something to do with one of his models, to which SK replied with "It's too complex for you" and stopped talking to him.

Re: Average Time for Kamiya to Respond?
Look at you bunch of ol'gossiping aunties
!
SK is just a normal Japanese (and a nice guy), meaning English is not his strong language. Showing this is quite painful to most Japanese I've met, though I've seen him try his best to give some explanation (I met him a couple of years ago at OH, though I had no idea who he was
). To do this in writing must be excruciating - add to this that in Japan etiquette and its application to introductions is possibly even worse in writing than orally and you'll find that most of anything you have written may come over as terribly rude (even if you were humble by all western standards etc...).

mes p'tits plis (now also in English)

Re: Average Time for Kamiya to Respond?
Ok, I carefully scrutinized the document's CP vs. Kamiya's CP, and they look identical (except the one in the document is quite faint, but still useful for comparison. I hesitate to post it only because I'm not sure what Mr. Kamiya thinks about it.
Re: Average Time for Kamiya to Respond?
OMG!!! why all this public hand-wringing about it? unless it was made by him, it's clearly illegal. what you do on your own time is clearly your own business, but i don't understand why you're doing all your soul searching about this overrated model in public.

Re: Average Time for Kamiya to Respond?
It is partially about legality that I sent him an Email in the first place. It had a CP for 2.1 in it, and I was unaware (ignorant?), and didn't see that he had one on his site. Therefore, I think *that* part is OK, but because of the fact that it is somewhat well-detailed in how to solve the CP now is the only part that concerns me. However, if he himself says that I may use it, then it would be fully legal for me to use it, because I would have express permission from the designer if he approved of it. were he not to approve, I'd be sad, but just walk away.
Aaaaaanyways, has anyone else ever contacted him?

Re: Average Time for Kamiya to Respond?
Although I agree that Dr. Lang is extremely kind, responsive and generous I strongly object to the stories about Mr. Kamiya.
It all depends on the circumstances, the language barrier and the subjective opinion of the addressee how his words and intentions may be perceived or even twisted.
Calling him rude and a dick is not very polite. Not trying to be a saint here, but maybe he had an off-day or something. The man is still a genius who is very generous with his diagrams and models... I can imagine all the questions about Ryu-Zin and a new book get on his nerves...
