You can resize your pictures while uploading to imageshack. On the main page of
http://www.imageshack.us/ there is the text "Upload Options / Resizing >>". Click it to get a scroll down menu and choose "640x480 (for message boards)". Then continue like usual.
If you want to resize the pictures before uploading you need an image editing software like for example
IrfanView (very recommendable also to crop your images and correct colours,...).
For Windows XP there is also the very easy to use
Microsoft Power Toy "Image Resizer".

Stunning! I love the detail of the head, and the wings are great - even though they give most folders trouble.
