Monthly Folding Challenge: September 2011

Great idea for a challenge! Here's a quick entry I made this afternoon:

Bannerfish. 2x2 b/w square for body, 1x1 b/y square for back fins.

If you feel that way, you aren't thinking along the right line. There are TONS of things that are very difficult or not feasible to fold from one sheet, regardless of the colors involved. It is challenging not because it is technically challenging from a design standpoint, but because it gets you to think of the possibilities of using multiple sheets in a new way for creative benefit. This is not something origamists in general are used to thinking about, because we so often use one sheet.

Good point- it makes sense for a challenge to expand the ways in which we fold. I suppose I was viewing the challenge from too technical a standpoint.

Perhaps as a stimulus you might look at some artists who do the "unusual" and "Unique" exceptionally well using more than one sheet of paper.

Nah, don't worry about it-I think 2 sheets is okay. I think I got carried away with wanting these giant super-complex VOG things, but I think 2 sheet models are perfectly within the spirit of the challenge. I will update the rules.
