Monthly Folding Challenge: June 2013
I'm going to leave the subject fairly open for this month.
Living Things - you can fold a model of anything that is alive. Animals, Plants, Fungi, Bacteria, single cells, etc.
With such an open subject though, there must be more constraint in the rules.
Entries must be folded from one square only, no larger than 15cm (or 6") to a side.
I'd like to see standard kami or printer paper used, but I'll allow other more exotic papers if you feel you really need them. No foil though.
Wetfolding and MC are allowed.
You may submit as many entries as you wish.
The idea behind these rules is to encourage efficiency and elegance in your design.
I'd like to see beautiful and simple designs that project the essence of the subject without relying on excessive detail and complexity.
gachepapier is the judge.

Re: Monthly Folding Challenge: June 2013
I've never participated in a monthly challenge, so here goes-
Stork
Designed and folded by from from a bird base. I used 6 inch kami, but I think it turned out pretty good.

Very nice! A first entry both for you and for the month.
That's some very effective colour change you've got going there too.

Thank you Spiritofcat! I tried many different ways to achieve the color changes, and this one looked the cleanest.Hopefully, my entry is the first of many.

My turn! Fish!
From a 15cm square.
I'm very proud of this design: I think it captures the essence of the subject with its simplicity.

Re: Monthly Folding Challenge: June 2013
This model isn't up for judging but I wanted to show my efforts anyway.
This model breaks all the rules, as it is folded from a 20cm square of Terry TF.
However, I do believe it shows the essence of the subject without excessive detail/complexity. Its just a fish base with the small flaps being squashed outwards to become the dorsal fin. Then the rest is just done with a bunch of crimps...
SEAHORSE:
Hope you like it and I will try and come up with a legal entry before the end of the month

I am surprised that there are so less entries although the topic is so wide. :/

Re: Monthly Folding Challenge: June 2013
My first try at designing. It started as a the whole whale but the tail comes from all of one side of the square, so proportions where a bit off. A diving whale is definitely an "alive" whale so I think this fits the bill better.
Would have been better (for the brief and for the folding) with the appropriate coloured kami but I don't have any so its from a 12cm square of black tissue on blue hanji.
