Monthly Folding Challenge: December 2014

The topic for this month is:
“Reflections”
You can use all interpretations for this word in your entry.
Here are some possibilities:
1. Fold just a part of a model and use a mirror (or other reflective surface) to complete the model.
This is a good method for new designers because you need only fold a part of a model and technically have a brand new model.
2. Use a mirror to display a different angle of a model.
3. Use a Mirror to take a “Selfie” - perhaps of a wearable mask
4. Use material that is reflective to make a model
5. Fold a model that includes Mirror displays of the same object
6. Use a reflective surface to enhance a display
7. In Chicago, new buildings often “reflect” the style of nearby older buildings. Fold something new to reflect the style of your favorite designer.
8. Fold something new that “reflects” the style of a famous artist.
9. Fold something that represent a meaning of the word reflection such as “introspection”
10. Use reflective paper (metallic) and a light source to create a unique display. Notice that the sun shining on the example below makes it look like there is fire in the Dragon’s mouth:
Rules:
Must be a new “original” design submitted for the first time between December 1 and December 31, 2014.
Because of the nature of this challenge you may use any material that can be folded and can use solid reflective surfaces as part of the design. Rectangles and regular polygons for the folded material. No limit on the number of sheets.

Can I make shadows of things?

Yes - in the sense that a shadow can be a dark reflection of where a person or object was or will be.

First, let me say that I'm very happy to be judging this month's challenge. I look forward to seeing the interesting models you all come up with.

A few points I'd like to elaborate on for this challenge

-If you are going to take a selfie, make sure it's clean. I don't mean in terms of vulgarity, but resolution wise, the image should not be blurry or grainy, and try to refrain from using filters, unless of course these add to the aesthetic. Also if possible, have a stand alone image of the model, so I can judge both the model and the presentation.

-For those that seek to reflect an artist or designer, make sure to either put the artist's name in the title of the piece or in a description for reference.

-Swapnil, if you are only showing the shadow of your fold for a presentation, take a photo of the piece as well so I can understand how the shadow works.

As for what I'll be looking for, I like the idea of "reflect" as introspection. If the piece can somehow reflect who you are, then that model will be better for it in my opinion.

I will not be looking at complexity per se, as most of the interpretations firstfold offered are about enhancing the visual aspects of a piece. A clever gimmick may be better than a complex model

Finally, something to consider is reflection as a false perception. Use mirrors, shadows and perspective to make an object appear different from what it actually is, or show how something little is depicted as massive or vice versa.

This is a perfect chance to try out an idea that I've had for a while now. I only hope I have the time to try it out...

I'm thinking of a design consists of 2 different model that can reflect each other.
But one of them is other designer's design.. am I allowed to use that? :(

It's not necessarily a bad thing, as you will have your own design, and the presentation will be a unique concept. However, if the presentation is dependent upon another's design, i.e. your model is outshined by the other model, or your model wouldn't work as a standalone, it will hurt your submission. Make sure your model is good enough on its own, show it standalone, and then the two of them together is just icing on the cake.

I've thought and thought and I don't really have any good ideas for this ):

however, to paraphrase terry pratchett,

-using magic is like drinking wine that drinks you back.

A person stuck upsidedown in a water glass? is that allowed?

Please elaborate. As it stands I'm not sure if it qualifies or not.

Perhaps a few example will help get you started n this challenge:

1. Fold just a part of a model and use a mirror - this may be a great way for beginners because almost any half model will be a new design:

See this video for how to finish the frog:

2. Use a mirror to display a different angle of a model.\:

3. Use material that is reflective to make a model"

I honestly thought that was a metallic croissant...I'd like to stick with that misconception.

Sorry, it was late when i wrote that :P
I meant like a converse statement:

I drink a glass of water
a glass of water drink I

or a glass of water drinks me

Actually, i have a better Idea as well, That I am very sure will qualify, so I think I won't actually do that after all.

@Nepafarius I thought it was a croissant as well!

That sounds interesting, and I would have considered it. But if you have another idea, feel free to do it, Hurry though, only a few days left!
