Hi, I've been looking to find some mc to buy in the UK. I've had a look but I can't find anywhere to buy it over here. If anyone knows where I can get some I'd really appreciate it if you could tell me!
Thanks

Greetings! This is the brand I use and can recommend, not cheap but it's lasted ages and its archival
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/METHYL-CELLUL ... 0954946908
Never tried this one but the description says its pure methylcellulose so should be fine and you get a bit more if you're planning on using a lot (plus, its food grade so you can use it to thicken your gravy in a pinch

)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/METHOCEL-250g-C ... GHWJZGPA97
I've used this, works fine but its not pure, not totally colourless. Nice and cheap though! Fine for making test sheets of double tissue

I've never found any in shops round my way but some wallpaper paste is based on mc, don't know which brands (definately not solvite) but I'd avoid any with fungicide in. Hope this helps

Thanks man, I think I'll go with the stuff from ebay, may as well invest in it, it'll make better models!
I've tried some wallpaper brands, but none seem to give great results, and they didn't have any ingredients list so I'm not even sure what they were based on.
Any advice on the mixing quantities?

Personally, I just chuck a bit in a jar full of water, wiz it with a hand blender (this isn't necessary, just gets it mixed a bit quicker as it doesn't mix very well initially) and let it sit for a while. If its not thick enough ( I go for an egg white consistency) I chuck a bit more in. You'll probably find some more useful advice in the mc thread

I always let it stand overnight, but it may not need that long, maybe 5-6 hours? Stays good for ages so I usually make up a big batch.

For what its worth, you can always try looking up the MSDS sheet for the product. There are some sites on the internet that will have the info, be it the manufactures or others. You can always ask at the store.
