Hello (new member)

I'm a new member and i want to say hello to all the origami fans.

I saw a lot of talented folders in this forum so i joined. The last two years, i've folded a lot origami models, beginning from montroll to kawahata, lang and kamiya.
It's such a nice hobby and we only need a single sheet of paper to fold sometimes very "life-like" models
The only negative point is, that it takes a lot of time
I'm actually a classical piano player so i have to organize myself very good, becauce once i've started to fold, it's difficult to stop and continue at another time.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to post some pictures of my models i've folded. Hope you're interested in it.

Here are my first three pictures:
Scorpion (designed by R. Lang)
Size: 17cm long (Origami paper: 40cm square)


... Tarantula (designed by R. Lang)
Size: 9cm long, 18cm wide (Single tssue layer: ca. 40cm square)


and finally the Hercules-Beetle (designed by R. Lang)
Life-Size: 16cm long (Japanese Origami paper: 36cm square)


The tarantula is really hard to get it nice. I wish that i would have the same kind of paper that Robert Lang used for this model.
In some of the origami models you just need a big paper size to get a good looking model. For these three models i used a square about 40cm x 40cm.
And in others i found out that it's very hard to fold the model with a bad (thick) paper, even if you use a big size.

When i have time, I'm looking forward to post more pictures.

That scorpion is great! It is so cleanly folded! I really like the shaping of the hercules beetle too. Looks like the tarantula tore in a few places, but oh well-it happens. Oh, and welcome to the forum too

As a piano player you need to practice a lot (to be good player, of course ) what is very time-consuming. Where you take a time additionally for folding what is also very time-consuming?

The tarantula is really hard to fold it nice. i wish i would have the same kind of paper that robert lang used for this model.

I suspect master Lang, that he presents different models than he diagrammed.
Very hard work on his tarantula, it looks... how to say. That you try to fold it nicely. I like it!

I'm so obsessed with properly folding that model. I've experimented with different kinds of paper for this model but always end up with one of the following:

• * paper too thick, making it impossible to thin out the legs
  * paper too fragile causing the back of the spider's head to rupture

"Origami Insects 2 - Certified Paper" certified paper is really hard to come by in my country.

The closest I've got was by using paper similar to what Artur Biernacki (forum member) uses. But even then, I couldn't produce the rounded head shown in the front cover of the OI2 book.

wow, you shaped the ancient dragon so well.. and since you've actually folded one of kamiya's models, how hard is it to follow his diagrams? are they complex just becuse the folding sequence is so long, or are there difficult folds as well?

Hello paper-okami

First you have to pre-fold for about 35 steps. Then you have to do a lot of pleats combined with squashes. Then comes the strange collapse-fold which is very hard to do, as there are no comments. i had to try a lot to get this step (59-61). There is also a tobic about that problem in this forum. And the steps 76 and 86 are also very hard to understand and you have to imagine the situation very well.
After all that the hardest part is over and you still have to fold about 200 steps
Well the model teaches you in origami. but with the help from this forum, experience in origami and patience, a lot of folders can do it.
