I'm a noob...

Hi, I'm new here (have been lurking and reading for awhile) and pretty new at folding. I've been learning everything I can from books and online, and since I really had no idea how to start out, I just started with whatever diagrams I could find. I only have a couple pictures of things I've done, because my camera is kind of absolutely terrible, but here they are:

I feel quite bad because I'd like to credit whoever came up with that orchid, but I can't remember where I found it and can't seem to find it again either- I was wondering if anyone here would know?
I have 2 John Montroll books, Animal Origami and Origami for the Enthusiast, and Robert Lang's The Complete Book of Origami, that I'm trying to learn from right now. Are these good for beginners?
I'm looking forward to learning lots, and thanks for having me here. :)
