since all rules we follow are only individual personal rules and there's no official origami rule book, you basically can do everything that you want.
I would always prefer a single piece, no cut, no paint and not glued model. but if the finished model excuses the glue and paint I would do it. usually I wouldn't but hey, look what amazing art Hector Rojas made with painting and glueing

thats surely worth the paint.
there are some nice models with cuts, or modular models that look nice but need to get glued to give it more stabilty.
thats all ok to me, but the main process should be folding, and you should be able to identify the model without having to paint eyes onto it.
if you have to answer "hey thats an nice eiffeltower" with "thats not the eiffel tower, thats an giraffe" its probably not the best model :)

Why the hate for circles? What sets them apart from other regular shapes?

I would disagree on the paint issue. The only reason that origami looks as good as it does is because of all the detailed painting. In fact, there is so much painting on that that it overshadows the origami aspect of the model, making it more of a 3-d painting than origami at all. I think in origami it should not be acceptable to paint on the details rather than actually using folding sequences to achieve them.

NO CUTS, glue only after folding to keep it for a long time, irregular shapes are ok but I hate them. As Phillip said, cuts = no no. Cuts automatically make it kirigami so NO CUTS!!!

I do make an exception for tape or glue during folding, and it is this. If you get a rip while folding.
That is the ONLY way you will catch me using tape or glue during the fold.

pureland is too strict. I have to open up the model to do 3d folding. Just imagine doing Ancient Dragon with pureland method O.O
