obviously a lot of people have lost their interest in this tournament. they did not submit a model in time, not with even more time or - if they did submit something - they refrain from starting a poll yet. to me this is no challenge any longer, so please take me out of the list.

17 out of 22 entrants in the first round (excluding those with byes) have entered at least one model. I don't think that's bad at all. It's a shame that some of the matches are uncontested, but sometimes real life gets in the way of origami. Don't give up now! It wouldn't be very fair on those who have made the effort...

i don't think it fair to set a schedule if there's hardly any participant keeping on it. to have just a measured span of time should be part of the challenge - if you''re not able to design and fold something in time, you're out. this tournament runs the opposite and so i am out. gab wins our first-round-challenge and the show goes on - with or without me.

It's a shame to see a lot of entrants failing to submit their entries in time, but I don't think the tournament should be cancelled because of it. Once the first couple of rounds are over the no-shows will have been weeded out and you'll be left with only the active contestants.

What happens to the ones who didn't submit entries anyway? are they completely disqualified or do they still move on to round 2 in the losers bracket?

Also, I wasn't being active here on the forum when registration for the tournament was open.
Is there any chance you could still slot me in there somewhere? Maybe I could take akugami's place if he's withdrawing...

As the winner of the first tournament I felt it best to not compete in the second one, similar to the monthly competitions, but I really wanted to compete again. I thought it was great so many people signed up for this tournament, yet I have somewhat similar feelings to Akugami, it is disappointing so many people made (what I hope was) an error of judging their time constraints.

That being said, I am more disappointed this caused someone to feel the need to drop out, especially an origamist of your talent. I must say I dislike the monthly competitions to some degree because of the format, but this tournament style is very fun to me. I feel like I get to go head to head with the great folders on this forum, and this could have very well been Akugami in my first round. Is there no way to change your mind? Perhaps we see who submitted models and continue with them and drop out the ones who could not submit a model. The loser bracket was already scheduled, the tournament can proceed exactly as planned. As chris_t said, 17/22 entrants submitted a model, this is still a good amount of participants.

Regardless, perhaps the originally planned date of each round should be honored without all these extensions for the future rounds. I can see how it is disappointing to one who finished their model to wait longer to continue with the tournament, as well as a PERCEIVED lack of interest after joining. No matter what happens, it would be a great shame if the whole tournament was canceled because of this.

If you think about it, this past round overlapped Christmas and the other holidays around that time. So I'm sure a lot of people were busy decorating and such, which would explain the gaps in submitted models.
I don't see a need for the schedule to be eliminated, nor for the tournament to be cancelled. It worked fine last time, as far as I remember. There aren't as many holidays in the coming months, so everyone will have more time to work on models.

Personally I look forward to the next round.

Indeed. I would hate to see this contest be cancelled from lack of interest before some of us have even had a chance to compete! As Baltorigamist said, people probably just got caught up in the holidays this month. I know I was pretty busy with Christmas, and before that exams.
However, I do think that there should be stricter enforcement of the time limit, or at least more reminders, since only having a few weeks to design a model is a major part of the challenge involved.

Maybe Gab (or someone) could forward a PM to everyone every week or so to tell them how much time is left. That would work pretty well in case someone doesn't have time to get on here at all. It would also help to dispel any confusion about dates and so on.
(I get an email every time someone sends me a PM, so I'm assuming it's the same for everyone else.)

if you ask me, please take my seat. whith "gab" having done the preparation work for this tournament, he's probably the one to ask for changing the list.
i don't think this game will stop just by me dropping out of it. if you other people do still have fun, you should go on with it. good luck!

As the former architect of this tournament I can say that people who fail to submit entries will always be there, but that doesn't mean the tournament was a failure. It was insanely hard to enforce deadlines, especially when rounds were starting at different times. Like other people have said, these people are weeded out early.

That said, what I find disturbing is the lack of participation of the forum moderator. When I ran the tournament I would post warning of the deadlines on all of the threads with missing entries and even sent PMs out. This did wonders to keep the tournament on schedule. I know this is work, but I think it would be helpful. Another contributing factor was the late start of the tournament. it was months after the thread was opened for entries before the tournament began. Furthermore, gab has not been around on the forum to direct the creation or timeline of the polls, and hasn't even posted on this thread in two weeks despite the raging discussion. This tournament will never be on schedule if the tournament director is not on schedule, so I think gab needs to be setting an example to follow, or this tournament really may drag on all year, which is likely to spell the end for this activity.

You make a very good point, Argonaut. I thought I would be more motivated than I have been. If someone wants to take over the reins, please be my guest.

That said, I would very much like this tournament continue, and I am sorry if my lack of activity has hurt participation.

I would do it, but due to personal issues I have limited access to the site, so sending mass PMs would be next to impossible for me. Maybe once the issues clear up.

I could if you would like. My main responsibilities are sending a PM each week to each contestant as well as updating the brackets and setting the start/end date for each round, correct? If you do not have the time to do it I do not mind taking over Gab, unless someone else wants to do it.
