i have to admit, i tried collapsing the CP for this model using andrey's photodiagrams. there's NO WAY i would have deduced the sequence.

a third attempt, with 50 cm japanese foil (4 25 cm squares taped together). the reason why i did this approach, instead of cutting from a 50 cm roll, is that i always get a slightly imperfect square with the latter option, and with this particular sequence, those imperfections will lead to key landmarks being off in the initial folds.

btw, if it wasn't obvious by now, the diagrams are for v1.0, which is slightly odd, IMHO, since he's been flashing 2.0 everywhere. not that i actually mind... but i thought there might be hints for the 2.0 cp. not so. just letting the buyer beware. i have to say, if it wasn't for this model, i otherwise wouldn't have gotten this year's volume. not that the models were bad, just unimaginative--did we really need more origami giraffes and elephants diagrammed? gen hagiwara's giraffe is one of the best, imho... and it there's nothing about the sequence, it's just the finishing touches he puts on the face.

This year has been quite lucrative, imo.

Two years ago it was a parrot... Which is folded pretty much exactly the same as the crow published in that same year, except for the head and beak. JOAS has published a crow some 3 times in the past if I remember correctly.

I'm happy for the amount of variety they gave us, instead of a variation on a bird, or a dog, folded from pretty much the same CP as the previous ones.

[ADDED] YAY! My tag now says junior member as of this post! :-)

I usually wait until the last minute to subscribe / get membership in order to have all of the magazines delivered at once with the special edition. I have waited too long now though and volume 23 isn't an option to order anymore (I want the volumes plus special edition). Anyone here have the email address for PayPal payment so that I can just send them the money that way? Thanks!

I have a PayPal account, have had for years. I'm not sure what email address Origami House uses for PayPal payments or if it is the same one they have for contact info (the webman address). I don't want to go sending money to random email addresses. I tried just selecting the order a back issue option for volume 23 and was just going to increase the amount to ¥11,500 but I'm not able to alter the amount being sent when I link from their website.

You can always ask them, but I'm pretty sure you can,t get the Special issues when ordering back issues. The member price is only for the current subscription year.

Think of it this way, why would you be able to vote and participate in past years?
Unless you own a TARDIS O_O

You have always in the past been able to get the special edition when ordering back issues if they still have it in stock, which typically they do at least fairly soon after the new volume has started. And who outside of Japanese members votes or participates anyway? That's a silly example to use. I suspect the only reason anyone abroad is a "member' is to get the special edition diagrams. I couldn't care less how they run the organization since I have no way to be actively involved, member or not.

I finally remembered the contact person I had before I will just go that route. Thanks!

I wasn't trying to criticise. I was not able to obtain Back issued special editions when I tried.
I'm glad you're able to and would appreciate if you shared how you were able.
That is all.
Sorry for the confusion.

And yeah, I'm Canadian and that is the only reason I am a "member".

It's all good. Typically, if they still have copies of the Special Edition diagrams, they will let you order it with back issues. It sill costs ¥11,500 though... so full subscription price. They sell out of the special editions relatively quickly though. I think some may have lasted a year or more, but I think they are probably better at printing closer to the actual needed number without going over a much now. Just email them at the address listed on the site and ask. They responded to me within a day and hopefully my volume 23 + special edition will be mailed very soon. Good luck!
