The main problem is the definition of aesthatically pleasing, everyone has his/her own definition of that. But always keep in mind the less the better for everything that´s out of normal. Not only that some special characters may be displayed wrong on other users systems, the level of what is seen as annoying and what not depends a lot on the cultural suroundings you live in. A smiley for example can be seen in many different ways depending on where you live. I´ve seen sentences on this board like "Your model is really beautiful  ". In my cultural field this would be seen as if the person telling this sentence would like to say the exact reverse ("Your model is ugly!") indicated by the smiley that´s laughing on you, but in other countries the exact same sentence would be seen as a great compliment to the folder.

By the way, my selection to delete every further post in this topic including a tilde symbol wasn´t because of your post, but because of the following posts and especially the "quote"-parts in them.

I can't believe an innocent tilde has sparked so much fuss. I vow never to use it again. [-X

You are right malachi, signatures and member names are a different kind of thing. There´s a part in our Forum rules that says: "Text in signatures is subject to the same conditions as posts with respect decency, warez, emoticons, and so forth." and a closer definition of that can be found in Forum Rule 5, but I see things a little bit looser there. Having a large pic or text in the signature is clearly against the rules, but come on, using some colours or special characters in one or two lines of text isn´t that bad (you can always overdo it, but then you will have a reminder by me as soon as I see it).
So yes, if you quote the australian girl without quoting or writing a tilde symbol elsewhere, I won´t delete your post.
