Models folded for BOS convention

Post by Fishgoth »

Hi all,

BOS convention this weekend was great! Nick Robinson has twisted my arm to write a report for the magazine, which will be ready soon. I've got a memory-card full of photos, which I'll stick on fishgoth.com in the next week. In the meantime, here are some photos of models that I designed recently, and have kept under wraps until after the convention, where they were first shown. All models are folded from a single uncut square, unless stated otherwise.

To start: Preying Mantis

Designed last year, I've found a way to thin the legs even more. Folded from a mulberry/foil composite.

Medusa - A brute to fold! Inspired by Joisel's Siren model, cramming that many snakes into the head was a real pain.

Great Wyrm

I've posted an earlier version of this model on this forum. Inspired by Satoshi Kamiya's dragons, I felt that they lacked scales, teeth and a tongue, so I've designed a supercomplex model with all of these thrown in. Next year, I'll try for eye-lashes, too.

Badger, badger, badger, mushroom and snake

This model will make no sense unless you look at http://www.weebls-stuff.com. The badger is folded from two squares.

Magical Trevor

Another Weebl's stuff inspired model. I wrote to Jonti, creator of the badgers and Trevor, and he wrote back, saying the models were cool. Folded from three squares.

Leo

Named after a doctor colleague called 'Leo' for reasons explained during the convention, which were a bit rude.

Neptune Beetle

Modified from an earlier design from 2002 to give it a more 3-D body.

I'll post a few more a bit later. I'll post other people's photos later on in the week.

And a few more...

Stag

I spent a lot of time trying to get a seamless closed back effect.

Styracosaurus

Another modified design - by adding a couple of strips on the edge of the model, I created another set of horns, a mouth and toes.

Black Widow

Folded the square into an octagon, and each corner became a leg.

Pureland Wizard

Folded from two squares, which lock together. A 'Pureland' model is folded from mountain and valley folds only - no reverse folds/sinks/crimps, etc. And no cuts or glue. This restrictive technique is sometimes a harder challenege than supercomplex origami!
