Kawasaki Rose Box

Here's my first attempt at doing it from a single sheet. It is not the whole rose but just a part of the swirl (sorry for the huge pic, I don't know what's wrong):

So I couldn't make a descent box but instead i created a Kawasaki Rose dish. Folded from a circle but it can easily be done from a square:

Very nice dish, looks like it could be turned into a box easily

Here are two trials I made in the last days, not quite as nice as a Kawasaki rose but definately flower like. Unfortunately the 3-dimensional structure of the flowers gets lost on the photos.

Sorry for sorta 'bumping' this old thread up, but I was really interested in making a gift box with a rose ontop aswell.

So ive come up with this on my first try with a Kawasaki Rose(p.s quite similar to origami_8's rose box:

Obivlsy it'll look better with more colorful paper. What you guys think?

If there were a price for the best first post Keljaden would be awarded with it. Now could you please explain to me how on earth did you do it?

I have tried but petals get trapped and do not form the rose. And about the paper choice of course it would look better with a reddish color

It would be great if you could explain how you did this; i tried to design a box like this but ran into the same problem that Brimstone did.

My guess is that Keljaden used two squares, like Anna. (compare to the box she originally posted).

Ty for the comments. Im acutally just amature at origami, so plz bare with me if I dont explain this right.

The whole box including the rose is made up of 3 equal sized squares of paper. The box is a modified misu box, where I first foled the 4 corners of the square paper 1st then turned to over the paper to make the misu. This way I will end up with a openinig the box like this ontop and bottom:

With those loose middle bits I then fold over.:

With the rose part, I used the finaly peice of paper to make a kawasiki rose (sorry not really sure what variaiton im using here), and took the 4 bottom ends that would normally close up the bottom of the rose into mini right triangles:

With these two parts done, I was able to create a latching system, where the rose's right triangles would stick inside the 4 middles bits of the box I folded over earlier. By doing this the rose is securely latched onto the top end of the box, with very little chance of coming off without a little force, of course.

Hope this explains properly what I did, and you guys can understand it. As I've said im only amature with a only a little understanding a of origami folds etc.

thanks for the explaination! that is a clever idea to get the pockets on the masu. i will have to try to fold this

Thanks. Its acutally very simple design, the main finddley part is sticking in the rose into the pockets so you must becareful not to put too much force onto the box.

Believe me I tried but I couldn't succeed. If you fold the flaps down to form a box, the petal close and loose their rose likeness. that is why I made a dish instead

In next the few days im gonna pickup some thick colored paper to make this box again, to see what colours best suit it. Any Suggestions?

The square is "overblintzed" and flaps rabbit-eared in a calyx shape :
