I forgot to note out, that master Lang was pre-creased paper, so it is much easier to impress people.

Hehe. I always carry Works of Satoshi Kamiya with me, so every time someone asks me where I learned to fold something I just tell them "Oh, well I found this book with some instructions on how to fold stuff". I then show them a picture of the Ancient Dragon. That usually leaves them speechless.

Anyway, I find it rather amusing to see how others, such as the new reporter, are amazed by such simple models like the one that Mr Lang folded. I used to be exactly the same just a few months ago, until I discovered origami.com though.

Or similarily, answer
"Carefully"

If it's box-pleated, I like to pull a bit of it out to show the creases and that it is from 1 piece of paper.

Robert is really clever and self effacing, and I hope you get the chance to meet him some time. Nice interview and good post. Of course the reporter didn't know anything, reporters never know anything. It doesn't matter. She was hot and knew enough to interview Robert.

I generally never get a problem from people since I never tell them about my hobbies. Most people at my school think I am that guy who sits with his friends and never talks to others. I am not very good at talking to people I do not know.

I liked the video, but I wish I could have heard more about some of his other projects. I really got into origami when I learned about all the math you could apply with it. Most people think simple models when they hear origami, which is why they are amazed by most models.
Whenever I do complex Origami I get this sinking feeling.

I don't expect Robert Lang to discuss upcoming models - there may be confidentiality agreements. But he very open and giving about what he can discuss. I strongly recommend taking a look at his Web site to see the range of activities:

http://www.langorigami.com/

And here is a different site related to math: http://erikdemaine.org/folding/

Actually, I don't think anything was mentioned about the Eyeglass telescope project until after it had been cancelled. LLNL probably would not have wanted that information out there.

Another Dr. lang video. I don't know when this was taken, but I think it's never been posted here before.
As usual, mathematical origami and science 8)

Origami Artist Robert Lang stops by to show Host Ziya Tong how math and science intersect to create complex art.

Thank you for the great video Trekker. It went a little more in depth than the first one. I am not to convinced though that packing luggage is that hard.

Thanks, trekker. That was a great video. I'm glad to see origami getting more exposure, especially in its practical applications.

A professional artist must be good at self promotion, and being the uber intelligent being that he is, Robert is particularly adept. I'm truly glad to see it, he deserves every bit of the success he's garnered.
