Just found a possible subject: Nepa Cinerea, Family Nepidae, genus Nepa.

Seems like a good subject; going to try box-pleating for it.
Hopefully it'll work out!

Hi! It's been a long while since I've been active on here. I deleted my Dropbox years ago, so some things, like my Dragonfly Varileg guide, are lost to time. I may still have other things, though! Email me if you have any questions.

hmmm thats an odd little creature  a water scorpion... from the picture it looks like it only has 4 legs?, with 2 pincer-like structures by the mouth, and 2 hairlike appendages as a stinger?

strange creature... kinda cool tho :P good luck making it. i might try reproducing what u make from your cp, just cuz its such an odd creature

After you do the water scorpion, maybe you should try a sea scorpion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurypterid
Those frilly appendages look like a good challenge.

Well, I haven't had much time to do anything origami related as of late (due to homework), so I'm afraid I won't be able to design anything for a little bit.

I am still struggling to grasp just how to plot circles/squares (as in circle packing/box pleating) onto squares. I don't understand just how you figure out the radius of the circle, and where you put the center of the circle/square on the paper. :?

So, since I don't have anything else to write about, just because it was released on Origami Weekly, I'm just going to post the diagrams for my "Cup of Eggnog". So, uhh, here are the diagrams.

Great that you released the diagrams! I feel like a beta-tester now...

Nice diagrams.
Out of interest, a 16 sided regular polygon is either:
a) a hexakaidecagon - most correctly following the greek naming conventions
b) a hexadecagon - a lazy modern abbreviation adding hex=6 to deca=10

For the purposes of diagramming though 16-gon is an elegant summation.

Well, this one was all Andrew's doing. He had a free (sick) day, while I had a midterm.

He's not a math a major, so I surmise he's not used to generic classifications, n-tuples, k-gons, etc. and would prefer direct names. As for me, I think that k-gon is okay (and better to use) for any polygon with at least nine sides. Everyone knows 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8. And seven makes sense. But once you get to something like enneagon, spell-check loses you, let alone the public!

Thanks. :)
I actually did the diagrams back in March Break (the Canadian one, somewhere in the middle of March). Back then, I had barely any clue how to use Inkscape to diagram, so I did some experimentation until I had it all figured out. When I had finished, I finally understood just how much designers hate diagramming.

I wasn't really sure of the exact terminology of a 16 sided regular polygon, so I just went with what Robert Lang was doing.

You did a very good job with the diagrams, well done. The 3D pictures are very difficult to draw, and yours are near perfect.
Hope you continue diagramming your work!

Thanks, Quentin! I am gratified to be complimented by a master. :)

I am thinking that I may, if I have the time, diagram the Beetle. It will take a while; it seems more like a summer project to me. But, we'll see. I'll try to fit in some time after school to work on my origami-related stuff.

I have started work on the diagrams for the Beetle. I still need to figure out a feasible folding sequence for the shaping of the beetle though (with regard to sinking and such). It'll be a while until its done though; I don't have much time to diagram these days.

Update: So, I haven't been designing anything lately, so, I won't post anything new for a while. But just a quick update: I have finished the first page of the diagrams of my beetle. If anybody would like to test the diagrams once they are done, I would greatly appreciate it.
