I've folded some origami off and on as a kid, but I really got into it when I was in college, and those that were on the origami-L at that time remember that I practically spammed the list on a daily basis. And I signed every email with "David" when everyone knew THE David was David Lister. I had alot of audacity.
Anyway I folded alot back then, and that was my peak. When I started grad school I just became too busy to fold. And then late into grad school (also the time I signed up on this forum) I got into it again, but this time instead of exuberant joy, it was more away to cope with stress, it was a hard time back then. Anyway I folded everything from Albertino's bug book, some things from Terry's book a few odds and ends and then I quit.
Fast forward to 2007, I had a long hard battle to get a job, I ended up with too much time on my hands, so back I was... but most of that time I was reading ODS and playing around with treemaker. I was too much into how to create a design, and not enough actual folding. All I got out of it was accidentally recreating an Engel model, and creating a really thick deer with antlers out of box pleating.
Well things have settled down, and I find myself needing to have useful hobbies besides just tv watching and reading novels, and I found myself pulled back in. And now I'm really folding again, I've folded most of the models from Montroll's Bringing Origami Back to Life among others. It's fun again. But man I just can't fold like I used to ten years ago when I was really into it. And I don't have the time either. But I can enjoy it at a more relaxed pace now, and not be obsessed with simply folding the complex and the new.
