Why not try double MC paper? It's approximately as expensive as tissue foil. Here is a video on how to make it:
http://www.happyfolding.com/instructions-double_tissue
As stated several times before you should try to slow down and make every fold as precise as possible. There's no need to fold twenty models a day, try to make less but those neat. You also don't have to fold the most complex models out there. Maybe just fold simpler ones but those perfect.
I think everyone in this Forum would love to see you fold really beautiful things. You have a lot of potential and some good ideas for own models, now you only need to perfect your skills to refine your models.

Quite the contrary, Joshua. I want you to fold from origami paper, in a 10 inch. If you're folding something complex, which is perfectly cool, you should be taking no less than two hours each. You shouldn't be able to fold so many things daily.joshuaorigami wrote:also, just so you know: im 12 years old and i have no money. my mum is low on cash and so ill just have to do with tissue foil for now so please do not ask me to fold with other papers. i will buy new papers when i have saved up for them.
Work on some John Montroll, Komatsu (which in my experience is best folded from something crisp, like origami paper, other than his Tiger), Miyajima, and Maekawa. The focus is on making every fold neatly, with no improvisation. There is of course plenty more out there, but I've listed some authors whose works are truly made to be folded from origami paper.
And remember the rule: no mashing. All maneuvers you make while folding should be true folds. There will be ample opportunity for curving and pinching and that sort of thing in the future.
Once you have slow, neat folding down, you can move up to better papers. But until then please don't touch another sheet of Origamido. Sorry to be blunt, but it was painful for me to see that Ancient Dragon. I have five sheets of Origamido, and I'm still waiting until I'm comfortable with my ability to fold a perfect xxxxxxxx before I use it.
Listen, you're a great folder for your age and experience, but you need to fold a lot slower, so you can focus on folding neatly. It makes a huge difference. That and bigger paper. Not so big that it's unwieldy, but most of the time, if there's a recommended size, that's a good size to use.
I hope this helps, and I look forward to seeing your improvement.
all the more reason to slow down! you have plenty of time to fold (unless you have some kind of terminal cancer. do you?).joshuaorigami wrote: also, just so you know: im 12 years old and i have no money.
also, i don't want to pick on a 12 year old, but it's very rude to talk to people as if they're stupid. while you yourself may not have enough money, there is obviously enough money running through your household for you to get origamido and tant paper from passionorigami, which is not cheap by any measure. you also obviously have many of the tanteidan convention magazines, the works of satoshi kamiya, as well as a subscription to JOAS. though it is entirely possible that you are got those diagrams through less than honorable means.
if you can get tant/origamido, you can buy ordinary kami in the US. my favorite is yasutomo. a package of 25 cm squares, 100 sheets with 25 different colors, can be purchased online for $14.00 sans shipping and handling.
i agree with jared that you should give john montroll's models a try. he's a designer who has gotten lost in the hustle and bustle of modern origami... partly, IMHO, and oddly, because he, like you, went with quantity over quality. regardless, i think you also share a designing style with him. i particularly like his early books, origami for the enthusiast and animal origami for the enthusiast.

i've always felt his early models melded modern complexities with traditional bases, which made them look like classic complex models. sorry this is done from japanese foil. it's meant to be strung up on a christmas tree as an ornament, which is why i folded foil side up.

one of the things i love about hideo komatsu's models is that they are doable and look good with nearly any kind of paper. these i made from the aforementioned kami.
i will dissent from jared and say i don't think miyajima models look good with kami. many are quite thick and have a tendency to splay.

Hey Joshua, does your rhino have a similar fold to Ronald Koh's rhino?

Hey Joshua, have you ever tried folding tessellations? You don't need fancy paper for it, it can get very complex and look very impressive, and it really teaches you to fold precisely. Check out Eric Gjerde, Yureiko, Andrea Russo, Andrew Hudson, Joel Cooper... heck, even Lang is tessellating now.
Also, remember that the beauty of origami is that all you need is a piece of paper, and it doesn't have to be paper that costs ten euros per sheet. Some cheap papers that fold well include regular printer paper (excellent for test folds), masking paper, tracing paper, florists' foil, craft paper... and of course, there's always kami.
So rather than more Origamido or tant, I'd recommend getting a pair of scissors and a ruler and simply cutting "non-origami" papers down to size.
Hope this helps.

Yeah, Joshua, I agree with bethnor..... you can hardly claim sympathy from us because you have 'no money'. You seem to own more books than me, and I'm only 13! Also, that origamido is hardly cheap!
I strongly suggest you get involved with the BOS and come to the next convention in Autumn. I think it would be great for you to come and meet some other folders who can give you 1 on 1 help with your folding

Oh to point out to you that he hardly knew (no offense Joshua) how to use embedded html code for images and he can't use Flikr either. So you arousing the point he might have torrented something like that is just useless cause he obviously didn't (as you can also see in some pictures he has included a book or two in the shot).bethnor wrote:...though it is entirely possible that you are got those diagrams through less than honorable means...
But yeah, Joshua, your getting better, just need to slow down a bit.

i didn't say he did. i was merely pointing out that either he is wealthy enough to buy hundreds of dollars worth of origami books or he wasn't. turns out he is the former, or his mother is.Razzmatazz wrote:
