Joshua... it's very surprising how different you fold the models. Did you also take pictures of your brother folds? I think you don't need a good shaping... shaping can hide some mistakes you made in your normal folds but you need to fold cleaner. This is very hard to explain through the internet, and you and we would serve a lot of time if someone would help you to practice more and on the right steps and mistakes.

And to be honest: The pictures of your models for your book are also not clean folded. Beside the picture of your cat I wouldn't print them...You need to watch more on the animals in the nature. For example: The head of your fox looks like the fox sees himself as a bull

jogibaer, you're not alone.
I also noticed the incompatibilities of Josh's animals with natures ones.
I noticed it often happens that your designs, Josh, lack of accuracy. Too long/too short/too thin/too thick/etc......legs/tail/wings/etc... i could cast a lot almost for each model.
It happens only when you fold from your mind some stuff.. And I imagine you fold something, and say oh, it almost looks like a cat, or dog.. so let it be a dog, or cat. But c'mon "almost" is not enough. Proportions are necessary, although you create abstract animals (but you don't).
You should design stuff starting from a plain sheet and a pencil, ruller and a rubber.... This will lead to a proportioned animals, for example Gryphon, that has long wings and 3, not 5 fingers. This would not happen if you prepare a long flap for wings, and leave space for only 3 fingers.

And, Josh, remember, "designing" one origami after the other in this way will not make you better folder.
And also you should leave Crumplingami behind yourself

And start folding. I mean FOLDING, as Yoshizawa San. Have you seen "Beetween the folds" ? How he concentrated made one fold after fold.. And look what swan folded he. Make a tea, have breaks between folding. And fold your each model at least 3 times. I fold mine more, Joseph wu folds more, but you, as a proffesional, you can fold just 3 times.

I wish that these new year will be your progress year.

I kept on refolding my frilled neck lizard over 50 times (i'm not lying) to get it into the state it's in now and it still needs a lot of improvement and I didn't make a single tea in that time!
Proof that you don't need tea to design?

I recommend looking at some pictures of a swan and then try to actually "fold" it and not crumple some paper into place. Look at the head of your swan, it's just a crumpled mess. It doesn't need to be hundred percent accurate, just try to make it clean. No shaping as in squashing everything into place but clean fold lines.

White Rhinoceros Designed and folded by me, one uncut square of Tant, Wet folded. Although this looks identical to Quentin Trollip's Rhino, the folding process is very different. Diagrams in my next book, then you'll see the difference!
