MC outlets in sydney, australia.

Post by the modern einstein »

Anyone know a place where they sell MC, wheat starch, or any other such chemicals in Sydney, as I've got some crap, almost unfoldable Unryu(shi), that needs stiffening, and the large sheets I've got have too much potential to waste them. They're expensive too.
Any information would be appreciated.

I've never been to Australia, but I guess you have hardware stores there as well. Search for dry wallpaper glue, most of the stuff you get is MC.

I bought a tub of MC from Amazing Paper about a year ago and it was $15 but it was really old and I don't think they have any more unless you order it.

Will's Quill in Chatswood/Willoughby has MC but is really expensive - about $12 for 50g.

Bunnings has CMC if you look in the wall paper paste section - also about $12 for 50g (it's under some other name like poly paste)

There is a Persian grocery shop in Ryde (on Church St) that also has little packets of CMC (for making stretchy persian icecream). They label it "Salp CMC" (which should be salap) and sells for 69.99 a kilo (so 50g is 3.50).

http://biomedcafe.com.au/process/shop/p ... itemId=908 sells CMC for 250g @$9.30

I went to amazing paper about a month ago- they don't seem to have any form of wheat starch or MC there. I was looking for pure MC, forgetting about CMC but I will give this CMC at the stores you mention a try.

I forgot to ask: does anyone know any outlets that sell LARGE sheets of foil in the same city?

I've never seen large sheet foil paper in Sydney. You can get rolls of foil wrapping paper which are a bit thicker but that's about it.

goddammit. Sydney isn't a very good place to live if you're trying to find quality origami supplies, that are soft on the cash flow. This is annoying.

Are there any stores, that sell good, specialised origami paper in Sydney, over 40cm by 40cm, or 30cm?, as Amazing paper seems to be the only store that sell anything like kozo and suchlike, that is good quality, and even then it is only an A4 sheet, which is too small for some of the models I am folding. Buying online is only a last resort, so any information from any area of Sydney would be good.

there should be heaps of chemical retailers around sydney, so getting MC should be a breeze, though its expensive, my 500g was $60.

paper is very hard to find. Try Lincraft if you're looking for some mulberry paper. They should have some, i got some there. You'll have to coat with MC tho . . .other than that, due to the lack of good folding paper, people often make their own double tissue paper. There are heaps of threads on this forum for that.
