Re: Origami USA 2011 Convention
I found the Indian restaurant, I was wrong and it is located south instead of north along 7th ave between 24th and 23rd like 3 blocks from FIT, it is called Bombay Garden.
One of the cheap salad/pasta/drink places is located at 8th ave and 29 th st.
When I was looking, I found a place I haven't been to, but I did some research and it has good reviews. It is called Uncle Nick's and is a Greek restaurant across 29th st from the previous restaurant

Re: Origami USA 2011 Convention
I actually live around the corner so, this being my neighborhood there are some places that i would recommend to visitors in town for the first time that would be a bit different than the list of spots to grab somehting quick. Some very solid picks are:
Mornings:
- Doughnut Plant (23rd btw 7th and 8th), these are some very premium doughnuts, but are awsome
- Murrys Bagels (22nd and 8th), amazing fresh bagels, dont ask them to toast them, and if you go buy a few and make some friends
- There is a dunkin right there, but the two above are new york legends
Lunch:
Rub BBQ - 23rd btw 8th and 9th - the BBQ Chicken wings are AWESOME
Hill Country BBQ on 26th and 6th is very solid (highly recommend the peanut butter and jelly cupcakes)
Bombay garden - Mostly does local delivery business but the Chckein *~%! Masala is a real stand out in my book
I have about a dozen dinner recommendations, feel free to PM me or ask me live and in person at the event. I will be the one looking confused (first convention)

Re: Origami USA 2011 Convention
yay - thank you, Brimstone & maddoghoek100. My list is getting nice & long.
I'm gonna eat well this weekend...I am tired of cooking!
One of the classes is for Chris Palmer's Flower Tower...hopefully, I will get to take it. If I have time today I am going get try some models from Chris's Flowers cd.
See you there, maddgohoek100!

Re: Origami USA 2011 Convention
i will be taking my Nike's but cabs from LGA will run about 35 buck, there is a shuttle bus, but it is not awsome, for anyone flying into JFK or Newark I highly recommend the Airtran. I use it for business travel all the time rather than a car service or taxis, cheap and very easy. Takes you straight into 34th st penn station for 15 bucks.

Re: Origami USA 2011 Convention
Well, I am back from the convention...I was there early Friday until yesterday afternoon. I had some good classes and met a lot of great people including maddoghoek100 and lots of people from flickr! Unfortunately, I missed meeting FrumiousBandersnatch, metrodj, origamidude, Jason Ku, and a few others.
I saw Kawasaki making a gigantic rose and I finally learned Chris Palmer's Flower Tower - I hope to replicate it at home.

Thanks, EzOrigami! It was really nice to see your display pieces in person, as well. I wish I had caught up with you, though, to meet you.
