Only problem is my mom doesn't really like buying online books and paper... She says they're all fraud and they might steal her money, so she won't get me ANY books at all. Way to stunt my origami knowledge... D:
:(
Origami - shop CAN be trusted, cant they?
Yeah, but good luck convincing a parent of that.
Art is about creation. It is about self-expression. It is giving form to something within you.

Yes, Origami-shop has been trusted by my mom, she got me some 60cm paper.

However I'm talking about books. For example I'm not sure my mom would be happy to buy me an 80 dollar book. She says "it's too expensive for a book".

You're probably too young for this, but I've dropped $80 on a bottle of rum - tell your mom a book would last longer. Maybe that'll convince her.

There are comic books that would last longer than an 80 dollar bottle of rum in my cupboard.

It does get tastier as the price tag goes up, doesn't it? There's also the fun moment when you look the clerk in the eye and say "Please get the key to the locked case in the back - I Wish To Purchase A Fine, Fine Spirit."

However Origami-shop doesn't supply lubrication to aid in the creation of new masterworks, so I suppose my suggestion isn't terribly helpful - and probably unconvincing to somebody's mom. Being an adult does mean eating ramen noodles for a month in order to obtain the Thing of Awesome like an $80 book on how to mutilate paper in amusing ways - although it sometimes seems the only advantage to adulthood.

You've stated that you'd prefer to not consult with other authors, but to me, it is a no-brainer to first contact Eric Gjerde and Nicolas Terry for their thoughts and critiques for a tessellation book.
As steingar has said, be prepared for realistic advice, and take advantage of it to improve your project .

Consulting with the pros can only enhance your chances of success, down the road.

Good luck with this !
May I wish success to all who cope with the mountains & valleys of Life,
with all its peaks & depths, as well as Origami .
