Sparkle Paper - good for folding?

Post by Aya Blue »

Hey all!

Origami novice here (but experienced fabric folder, hoping that will help!). I have grand plans to make a lot of cranes for my upcoming wedding, and I'd like them to *sparkle*. I've seen glitter embedded paper, but I'm concerned that it will be difficult to fold.
Is there a good, sparkly paper available? Or would I be better off folding the cranes, spraying them with adhesive, and dumping glitter all over them? I've used metallic paper in the past, and I wasn't thrilled with the look.
I'm willing to cut my paper down to size. I thought perhaps I should be on the lookout for Christmas wrapping paper...?
Any advice is deeply appreciated :D

I really like the look of Iridescent paper. It's also okay to fold with especially for so simple models like a crane. Not sure if this is what you are looking for. Usually the dot embossed kind folds the best.

Use glitter spray, works realy good. But when using it, be careful not to take to much.
Good luck with the wedding and all!

I've used glitter tissue paper squares glued on top of regular origami paper...I don't know if that's what you're looking for. I recommend cutting little squares and layering them for a nice handmade effect on the paper.

sparkle paper + origami = horrible scrunched up mess. personal experience tells me this.

Most paper will work for the origami crane, as long as you aren't trying to make a very large crane with something too thin (reverse is true as well, small crane and thick paper don't always work well).
