The only tool I use is some wire to get into these little places that make you feel your fingers are as big as elephant legs.

I tend to fold a lot of business cards, which are a pain to crease, and I noticed one day recently that my fingernail was splitting, so I decided to pick one up. I have found it handy for certain situations where a fingernail isn't quite hard or broad enough for, and it also reduces strain on my hands and nails.
