I think that it has to do with total amount hair, not necessarily having facial hair. If the designing skill is derived from hair quantity, then that explains why the leading female professional origamists are able to design just as well, with no beard

If this hypothesis holds true, then I could still design if I shaved my goatee and grew a ponytail!

The total hair hypothesis has equal validity as the others....

[Conservation of Hair Hypothesis]
It may encompass the tendency to lose hair on top while gaining hair elsewhere, cultivated or not

A true test would be to cut the ponytail, and design; then cut the goatee and design; let the ponytail re-grow and design. Then take pictures of progress at all stages.

I'm sure they need more articles related to Origami.

Perhaps he is simply 'renewing' his beard. With a new beard come new ideas..?
