Hello everyone,

I wanted to ask if anyone from this forum has ever bought test sheets from origami shop. How do they fold? Like kami? Kraft? Tracing? Or are there any pictures of models folded from the test sheets?

Any sort of help would be welcome.

Hi - I recently bought some of these test sheets and I would say they are closest in nature to your ordinary kami, about 60gsm. I haven't seen any pictures of example models using it though.

Yeah, I've got some of this. To me it just seems pretty similar to ordinary kami, just white on both sides.

Would you Be able to fold Something Like Lang's Moose, or maybe The Cicada from Insects and Kin From that? I'm considering buying some myself.

I think I would probably need magic paper to be able to fold either of those at this point

The sheets are quite big so it should be possible to make a start on them but I suspect that parts of the model would become very thick and others difficult to shape. I get the feeling that this paper is intended for experimentation when collapsing CP's or getting to grips with new folding sequences for the first time. As for myself, I got it so that I had a plentiful supply of large sheets that I can cut up in my attempt to master the Oriland magic star - the last set of cornice folds is proving difficult to make without any ripping.

I'm not sure if I'm talking about the same test sheets as you, but its basically printer paper cut into squares. XD

Well, in this link, it's the one labeled "test sheets", if you want a small picture of the squares. I'd really like to see a picture of one folded though...

the test sheets are just kraft. he even says so.

save yourself some money and just use tracing paper instead.

Hello again, (warning: huge post)

A friend of mine had recently bought an origami shop pack that had test sheets, so he gave me one of them to test fold. These are my results of the fold.
Oh, and I tested the paper with the Kade Chan Fiery Dragon (it's just a model that comes to my mind easily, not really a proper "standard" for checking papers, and the paper was 30x30 cm so it seemed like a good idea).
I had these observations/experiences:
1.) It is not a crisp paper, it's more like a "soft" paper, like copy paper or drawing paper.
2.) It is pure white, like plain printer paper--the picture on the shop is a bit misleading.
3.) Paper wrinkle/splaying happened a lot, despite folding slowly to compensate for the "softness" of the paper.
4.) Reverse folding was a bit difficult. Not tracing paper-reversing difficult, but more like it didn't really remember the creases and needed some encouragement.

Overall, I can't say I'm a fan of the test sheets.

I agree with you Bethnor, people should go get some other kind of paper instead.

Yes, it's basically printer papers cut into squares !
But I've chose thin 60 gms sheets and not the classic 90 gms papers in order we are able to fold complex models.

I can't imagine to fold final version of an origami model with this basic pure white paper. But it is perfect to test new creation, test new folding sequence and try collapsing CP. Tha's wahy I named it "Test sheet" !

I hope to propose same kind of paper but in 40 gsm in some months.

The paper is often out of stock because not easy to have in stock and order as soon as I add on line. Sorry for that. I hope to have more in some weeks.

I agree, they're definitely for just checking/testing, Mr. Terry.

I'd love to see some 40 gsm paper though--that might be worth looking into.
