Are there any origami projects you have started and not been able to finish?

Langs Biplane Complete origami-note I really hate this model I have devoted way too much time on it and have never finished it.

I've had problems with that plane too, but I havn't tried again for 3 years, so I folded Marc Kirschenbaum's. I also had problems with Lang's dragonfly from OI till I folded it from foil instead of kami.

I've folded lang's biplane many times.

maybe I can be of help? I like it much more than kirschbaums. Lang's model is easier to fold and it's always fun to do, because there are no horrible folding processes in it (like in kirschbaum's biplane 2).

there are many models, that I've failed to accomplish. too many to count

maybe I should give it another try, I know last time i tryed I folded it out of tissue foil and it ended up being silver instead of brown that was disapointing because I thought I followed the shading correctly

My origami nemesis is Robert Lang's Blue Crab.

Every now and then I have a breakthrough with it and then I hit a wall - like at the moment the flaps that make the eyes appear to be in the wrong place, which means that I've followed one of the previous steps incorrectly.

In spite of the numerous aborted crabs that have sailed into my paper recycling bin, I love the poetry of the folding in this model.

That bit where you have several layers all stacked on top of one another and the model feels like a small spring and then you pull it out and you wrap around a layer of paper and then collapse the whole thing so it lays flat again. And then you do the same thing with the layer behind.

And the thing is, you don't have to make very firm creases - the paper just seems to want to go where it's supposed to. It's as if Lang has managed to tune in to some fundamental universal law and turn it to his advantage in his origami.

Damn, I don't care if I never finish that crab. I'm still going to fold what I can.

I love this model as well. I especially enjoy making this model 3 dimensional at the end. If you can point out some specific folds, chris or I may be able to help you.

(On a different note, I've folded this model out of 3 inch foil. Anyone get smaller? )

3 inch foil? wow, i tried this model with much bigger paper and still failed.

but that was a long time ago, i think i will try this again with some homemade foil

I've figured Satoshi Kamiya's Diamond CP. But I couldn't shape it from inside.

I hit a road block early on folding the Chuka-Ryu at step 23...the whole collapsing of the headis really vague.

Hey Arthur, got any tips on that little riddle?

I've had a Ryo Kamiya Housemaid mid-collapse for a couple weeks now.

I'll see what I can do, but first I'll have redo it again, since I can't remember how I did the step. I'll get back to you later!

As a newbie, "attempted but not finished" describes about 75% of what I fold, LOL . I am able to do things that I previously couldn't, though, so there is hope. (I find everything by Lang difficult, even models he categorizes as "easy".)

Well, he goes to MIT. Will be starting his third year there. He hasn't posted on this forum since mid-2005, except for last year to provide a new link for his helpful Kamiya Phoenix tail photos, and then he changed the link to his website to be his working website on mit.edu. Even that website hasn't been updated since mid-2006. Obviously, you can tell from convention photos that he hasn't become inactive in origami, but he hasn't been present on the internet much. He's not even on AIM anymore (except for a couple times a year).

Between school and the men's a capella group he's in at MIT, there is probably little time for origami.

I am able to fold models (including some by Lang) that I couldn't even a week or two ago. It is still frustrating when I run across a step that I just can't figure out, though. Occasionally, I will follow the instrucions exactly and seem to be doing well, but at a later step discover something that isn't right. (This recently happened with a Lang grasshopper. An inside flap to be reverse-folded was not there at all! ) Overall, though, I feel like I am still making good progress.
