What are you supposed to do when Robert Lang asks you to mark the edges of a grid?
Sorry I don't have much experience folding, I am just starting back again but I enjoy it .

Should I just put it on a sheet of A4, Mark the edges, and fold on the grid?

Could you specify where exactly he wrote that? Out of context it can mean a lot of things.

First of, non of the models there are suitable for A4 paper, you need something way bigger. For a first fold you shouldn't go below half a centimetre for a grid unit. Taking the very first model with a grid of 74x74 the initial sheet shouldn't be less than 30x30 cm and even that might be tricky for a beginner.

What Robert Lang suggests with marking the grid is not to fold the whole grid, but to actually make pencil marks along the border of the paper to mark the grid, and then only fold the grid lines needed. This can be be helpful for the collapse as you only have the necessary lines, but it can add a degree of complexity, given that folding accurately enough might not be so easy without prescoring the paper. Prescoring can be done with a ruler and a pointy blunt tool like an empty ballpoint pen or a nail doting tool, but it is very tedious. For ease of folding I would recommend to just fold the whole grid. (Robert prescores with a laser cutter.)

I figured out what you were asking.

"Mark the edges of a 76×76 square grid" means that you don't extend the creases all across the paper, just mark the grid over the edges.

Always mention the book and the step you're having trouble with (if it is a diagram).

And yes make pinches or small marks only at the edges so that your finished model doesn't end up with lots of unnecesary creases running all across it.

Ah, I see. Thank you. I will try one of his models then Also, would It affect the model if I did the whole thing as a grid and folded not just at the edges? Also, marking is valley folds if I am correct, right?

Usually mountain/valley doesn’t matter especially if it’s only marking the edges. Creasing all the all the way through would waste time and make the model less clean.
