Hi,

I discovered this strange looking Origami object on the cover of a German Origami book,
look at it, it's in the top right corner (--> green arrow). What the hell is this?!!
Do you see what I see?! :shock:

(Please click to enlarge, I hope it works)

Unbelievable ...
For sure this could not be real Japanese Paper folding art?

:P

Greetings from Germany!

From the title, I 'd guess it was some sort of Origami hat. Such as a Chef's hat.

Oh That's a hat?! :-k

So I can sigh with relief... :D
I first saw something else entirely, but in any case no hat -

maybe I have a really exuberant fantasy 8-[

Oh yes ... the book is about Origami hats, of course! You're right!

Well Gwendo, if you want a book with diagrams for the other thing, I can recommend you some titles...

But to your question, this is obviously a hat.

At first I thought it was a mushroom, but then I saw that it was Joan Sallas's (pronounced like the name Juan--WAHN) book on hats.

Looks like it uses pleating like a troublewit.

Two people already here who identify that object as a hat!
:mrgreen:

I was on search of Origami books (thank you very very much, but I have still three books that I can struggle through :D)

and I saw the cover of this book -- this object leaped out to my eyes
:shock: because I thought at the first moment, God never show this Origami object to my Japanese friends (I've some)

It can go wrong, it could be possible that they will be displeased, maybe this will be a real faux pas ...

Well to be perfectly honest I namely first believed to recognize that "hat" as kind of glowing mushroom cloud, yes .. eh ...
but it's said to be a hat, of course,

I think I've to much fantasy!

@origamimasterjared

I haven't read your posting just - so you believed to see a mushroom!

Okay. I think I must be careful in any case and must in any case not use bright red (as well as grey) paper;

If I use blue or green paper I think there's no danger to be
misunderstood ;-)
So than I can be careless that it will be recognized as a hat or a fungal mushroom.

I agree with those saying "mushroom". That is the first thing I saw.
Perhaps the OP has a dirty mind? :wink:

I could not be 100 % sure, but it pretty much looks like this model I independently discovered from a corrugation strip and that I called mushroom:

Well, the bottom part is for sure a pleat pattern, but it looks like the top of the hat is not open (this is speculation, of course-you can't see the top of the hat).

Here is a better photo of the cover ( it is a little bigger). It looks like the hat closes in on its self at the top.

Kinda like your's Brimstone, but you would have to crimp the edges back into the center.
