Hi,

Wonder if anyone here can help. I recently unearthed an old paperback copy of Robert Harbin's 'Origami 4' which I bought when I was a kid, many (too many) years ago. I've since found it could be a rare book. I'm not 'into' Origami any more so I'm thinking of selling it - however, I have no idea of what price I should ask for it. Does anyone know? It's in 'used' condition, though completely intact. Some scuffing on spine and a crease on the rear cover. I guess it looks like a typical 'used' paperback. Is there any place I could easily sell this (ie specialist bookstore) or is ebay the best approach do you think? Or is it just not really worth anything, despite being rare?

Ah, ok - just read elsewhere that this is definitely scarce and collectible so I guess it's worth putting on ebay etc. Would be really helpful if anyone has any idea of the actual worth of the book though so I can set a reserve on it. Anyone have any ballpark they could share with me?

If you search for the ISBN, rather than the name, you may find a few copies on ebay or used book sellers.

I bought my copy a few years ago for about $2 USD from the UK, and about $3USD for mailing.

You might simply post it here and on the O-list for about $5 plus about $3 shipping...

Just donate it to the local public library. You will make a lot more people happier that way.

I've seen them on ABE Books at quite high prices, although I'm not sure that's a reliable guide (they regularly have sellers offering the Dover edition of Hofzinser for around $100). Origami 4 is definitely sought-after, but you're not likely to get the sort of prices that magicians are willing to pay for out of print books.

Are you a member of the British Origami Society? If so, you could advertise it on the BOSMail list (http://www.britishorigami.info/society/bosmail.htm). If not, I could pass on the information for you, though unfortunately I'm going away tomorrow until the end of the month. Maybe in the meantime someone here will make you an offer.
