Hi,

we want to use an origami model as our wedding invitation. Ideally, it would be some sort of design whcih would contain our details, and our guests could unravel it to read them.

Can anyone suggest any designs that might do this? We'd like something floral, but any help greatly appreciated!

Actually, I've been thinking about this for my brother's wedding. I've got a couple of ideas that I'll fold and post up within the week.

And I almost forgot to mention: what skill level are you? Have you ever folded before, and are you comfortable deciphering diagrams? It would also be worthwhile knowing how many invites you expect to fold, as this will determine how much time you can spend on each invitation.

I folded a big swan (about 10 inches high) for a wedding a while ago. I put a big red kawasaki rose inside after I took these pictures. It looked really cool.

Well, friet, your swan is absolutely beatiful! It must have taken days!

We have only recently begun folding but have had modest success with some floral designs. Deciphering designs proves fun! You have to get into the right frame of mnd!

We have only about 20 invites to do, so have plenty of time to do them.

I have already done this. I used the crane fold, attached to a sheet which folded over... hard to explain but i have the book at home... we used a chocolate brown thai silk paper with silver ink, handwritten by dip-pen. It was hard work but everybody loved them. PM me and i'll get you the info in more detail if u want it.

I recently got a copy of The Saturday Afternoon Public Library Origami Club Manual and it has a very simple Rosette Letter Fold designed by V'Ann Cornelius htat would make a cute invitation. It's kind of a twist design.

I know that this is kind of late for sipi... but I remember making origami invitations of a birthday party which I had. The invitations were an origami geisha-type figure (more of a paper craft figure) holding a balloon (water-bomb) glued flat onto a card. The balloon string was tied around a tiny scroll with the party information on it and the water-bomb was then folded around it.
I had to explain to most people how to "extract" the information from the card! I was especially pleased that some of them couldn't bare to unfold the water-bomb and simply asked me for the information.

These invitations were really fun to make and could probably work with the theme for a number of parties.
