Hi, i and my friend are only boys in class and we wana make presents for other classmates for national fest for girls. It's not so big so we decided to give them smth made with origami as we both have moderate ( for 17 year old ^^) skills in it. The only ideas was crane and lotus (Girls like lotus btw as i know) but we wana make something bit harder so wana ask if u have any ideas what could be suitable in this situation.

p.s. We have 9 days to learn that thing so don't suggest to make ancient dragon plz

Kawasaki's roses are great-he has a few different ones. His new rose is diagrammed in Roses, Origami, and Math and his old one is diagrammed in Origami for the Connoisseur. The roses can be difficult, but there is also plenty of help to be had on the forum (see the rose sticky topic). You can also make leaves and a stem for them from separate paper if you are so inclined.

I know that you want something more complex, but the traditional butterfly is also good for the occasion. there are many videos on YouTube teaching this one.

A great model for girls (from personal experience) is Valerie Vann's Magic Rose Cube. It's not too hard, modular and ensures great reactions when you transform it. Diagrams for it can be found here : http://web.archive.org/web/200409010855 ... m/english/

This might sound weird, but try Lang's Bull Moose if you have ODS. The most popular comment I got on it from girls was "oooooh, its so cute!!!"

If you don't have ODS, try a pegasus. Anibal Voyer's is nice, and is on http://www.origami.com Of course, this is all from personal experience.

Nah, I think a great idea would be dreaming dog by Giang Dinh, it is really adorable! Diagrams are in the OUSA Convention book 2009. Its pretty hard, but not as hard as the Ancient Dragon.

Mark Kirchenbaum's Fluffy is a very good model, it's always a great hit !

You can try Last Waltz from Neil Elias. (too much work probably if you wanna make several)

I think the Rat By Eric Joisel is a great choise for this.
I used to fold it every time when i get bored in class, and they always took it and said they want to keep it.
This is one of my favorites models, anyways it is very easy to make, and look wonderful.

Thanks for the link. I've been meaning to look for the diagrams for this since I saw some photos of one the other week.
I've folded it now and I like it a lot. The transformation is a lot of fun.

If you want to trick chicks then don't be dicks . I know from experience that a small dragon can melt a lot of women harts. I use them to meet new chicks when I go out, Origami is a way better method then saying some lame 1.000 times used phrase.

"your ex boyfriend broke your heart? no problem, I can fold you a new one."
"would you like to come in and see my origami collection?"
"I'm very dexterous with my fingers, shall I prove it?"

It also depends whether you want to make it for "girls in general", or whether you want to make something special for a special girl.
If it's the latter, making something that the girl actually likes (e.g. a specific animal) is probably a good idea - just because it's more personal and related.

Else here are some models. I'm restricting myself to stuff with online sources, because of your limited time frame. Also, I'm going for slightly stereotypical "girls models". In general, many other designs will be appealing. Below I'm also restricting myself to doable models. I'm not sure which level your skills are at, but I'm assuming you don't want to spend hours on a single model.

Also, I picked models where there's videos available for free. Again, this is because of your time constraints. You probably don't want to puzzle over diagrams, and videos can help.

Umulius Rectangulum by Thoki Yenn
Modular, fun, and I've always had great reactions to it. It's an easy model to fold, too. It's also not the typical "stupidly girly" choice - I'm relatively certain many would like this a lot.

Rat by Eric Joisel
The rat has quite a comic feel to it, although again it's not the easiest fold. Paper choice does matter on this model (don't use too thick paper, but alsy try to go for something a bit stiffer).

Rose Brooch by Sy Chen
Pretty easy, again one of which you could fold quite a few. It's most beautiful with paper that is green on one side and a different colour on the other. Green/white works ok, Green/red is probably the best.

Can Love be Squashed? by Sy Chen
Very easy, you could also teach it to the girls if they like. It's a good beginner's model, and very suitable for "mass production". It's also fun, because you can play with it.

What about simple stuff like flapping birds?

When you see it flapping for the first time you get very surprised, and that's easy and fast to fold.

Maybe you don't want to fold just one kind of models, but three or four different easy ones could be a good choice.
