Hi everyone, I'm going off on a 2 week holiday to California shortly. I will be flying to San Francisco (Staying for a couple of days), And then going down the coast to Santa Cruz, and then all the way ove to Yosemite. I then come back through Napa Valley and back to San Francisco.

I was wondering if there were any good craft shops around where I'm going (as in very good, it would need to sell some great paper for me to change course a little). I did a google search but nothing much came up. I know that there are lots of Californian folders around the forum. Oh, and if there is any sort of origami shop (and I highly doubt there is) please tell me as well.

I don't really know, but you should try and find Elmer's Art Paste like I suggested, and get some MC of your own for once. It costs about 5 bucks (at the most), and will provide you with a LOT of MC gel. It's really worth the buy.

There should be some folks at Berkeley who could help, but you might contact Jeremy Shafer, offline, and ask his advice. IN addition to being a talented artist and Origami Book author, I believe that Jeremy runsthe Berkeley area origami group called BARF.

How about this paper shop?
I live in California but it would take a long time to get to San Francisco to this great shop.

Flax Art & Design in San Francisco is one of the biggest and best paper stores in the world. They've got the biggest selection I've ever seen, I went a month ago and I even found a couple sheets of Elephant Hide (which is not imported to the US anymore...)

According to their website they've got 7,000 different kinds of paper. They had at least two rooms of paper... I never got past the first one! It's also just down the street from the library where the SF origami group meets on the first Saturday of the month.

You might send Jeremy Shafer email and ask for his suggestions. You can find his email address on the link that I posted. (It is not a good idea to post an email address on the Forum, because SPAmmers may be lurking.) If you know where you'll be staying, he might also suggest something nearby.

When you're polite and respectful, it never hurts to ask.

prices at Flax are $3 a sheet, on average-- but keep in mind you're getting a pretty big sheet, maybe 20" x 30" or bigger. They've got a sale right now, a bunch of sheets priced at $1 and $2, but I don't know how long the sale lasts.
