Holocaust Memorial

Post by FrumiousBandersnatch »

Hey all!

I thought I would bring this up here, as it seems perfectly suited to our particular community. The Houston (Texas, USA) Holocaust Museum has been collecting butterfly art to create an exhibition of 1.5 million handmade butterflies at it's museum. (They are asking for submissions to be brought or sent in to them. )The butterfly relates to the Holocaust in the poetry of a victim, Pavel Friedman, written on (if I remember correctly) a wall in Aushchwitz concentration camp(which can be read on their website.)

I think that origami butterflies are particularly suited to this exhibition, in that they fit all of the requirements (fairly flat, handmade, butterflies) and think that it would be an excellent showing for the worldwide origami community to just deluge this exhibition with out handicraft.

At any rate, I have been making origami butterflies en masse for this exhibition, due to be unveiled in 2012, and thought I would put the word out into the origami world. Feel free to check out their website:
