Hey, just a quick question to those who have completed Kamiya's Samurai Helmet Beetle (Tanteidan Convention 14). If I'm using parchment paper, is 60cm a decent starting size, or is this going to yield too large of a finished beetle?

I have never tried to fold the model, nor do I have diagrams - However, when you try to fold something with a large sheet of parchment, as you probably know, it becomes hard to shape. I would recommend starting with some smaller size - that seems a bit big.

I folded it from a scrap of kozo probably around 8 inches. It came out with a body about 2 inches. This is from memory so these are guesses--I don't have it anymore since it got crushed at some point, so I can't measure it. Hope that helps.

It does! I was just kind of looking for an approximate ratio! 4:1 sounds like a good starting point. Thanks!

I folded it a while ago, while in my foil phase, out of 15cm american foil. It was foldable, but it didn't look good.

I would recommend something about 25-35 cm, MC'd kozo would work really well.

How thick is parchment paper? That might guide my advice a little bit, although this is one of those models where thickness isn't critical, but shapability is.

i folded this model from a 35 cm piece of nicolas terry foil. the final model is exactly 10 cm from the end of the elytra to the tip of the horns.

it's one of my favorite kamiya models, and i hate insect models.

I've heard that Sipho Mabona does this. Anyone know if it's any particular type or gsm of kozo? My attempts with this (with something called kitakata) were less than amazing...there was a lot of furriness at the end.

I thought you already saw my post where I explained exactly which it is, as well as provided a couple links of where to buy it.

I folded it with non MC-d brown kozo. MC would have helped a little. It was too soft for a beetle.

I buy mine from Hiromi paper, I really like that one.

Haha, I just found out that my aunt lives around 10 minutes from there, so she said she would send me some paper from there sometime . Looking foreward to it

Whisper - Parchment paper is very thin.

You could use the reccomended starting size on Kamiya's book.

Yep, but only small scraps of about 8-9 inches. I folded my Bear 1 years ago with it. Also, this beetle. I bought a sheet of red (along with a white gampi and a white one-or-the-other. The shop is about a half hour away from my house (when there's no traffic).

Whisperpuffin - have you ever folded with the Kozo roll paper?
