The problem with origami-shop is that it ships from france and takes like four weeks to arrive. Anyone know of any US based places/websites that have high end papers?

I'm also interested even though I'm more than willing to plan ahead and purchase what I need from origami-shop.

Yeah the 2 - 4 week wait is the hardest part with Origami-Shop but personally i think its worth it coz their paper collection and other stuff is simply awesome

Anyway, with regard to your Q, you can try Kim's Crane - http://kimscrane.com/ - and Paper Tree - http://www.paper-tree.com/index.html - for special papers. I haven't bought any from these stores, myself but have come across their mention on this forum.

While I certainly appreciate origami-shop, paper tree and, of course, origamido, there are two online/brick-mortar stores that have been helpful.

Has a wide variety of imported paper.

Also has a nice variety, especially Japanese paper, unryu, & lotka.
There is a paper there called " text ", that is slightly heavier than printer paper, more crisp, very foldable, almost looks like tant . Comes in 8 1/2 " by 11 .
Same colour on both sides . Many colours . I like it for intermediate folding .

Does anyone else go through the Paper Jade? They have a very nice array of beautiful paper (especially washi).

I have used Handmade-Paper.us for lokta, mulberry, and similar papers. You just have to watch the GSM carefully on those, since some of them come in weight that is closer to cardstock than paper, which may or may not be what you want.

I have also used Paper Studio, they used to carry the wax treated lokta paper, but they don't seem to anymore.

Locally I have used Jerry's Artarama and Plaza Artist Materials. Both of them currently source most of their handmade papers from Graphic Products Corporation (GPC) under the Black Ink label. GPC was the company that used distribute elephant hide in the us (under the Wyndstone label as Marble paper). It is possible that some of the other stores source from them as well, although I am also aware of Savoir Faire as another distributor of similar papers in the US.

As far as I know, GPC and Savoir Faire do not sell directly to consumers, but their websites are handy for being able to ask your local store to order something specific if they use them as a supplier.

I bought from them and found they were extremely corteous and fast in answering, the packaging was perfect and the papers were without damages despite the long journey (I live in Italy)
