Hello,

Went to my paper shop today, and noticed this beautiful paper, it had been stitched with golden thread and had gold dots around the loopy bits.

I normally tend to pay £2.99 for an A1 sheet of (patterned) paper, but this costed £4.99!

So what's the most expensive paper that you've ever bought?

I'm not sure what the $ exchange is between me and you, but I have twice now paid $12 CDN for a 16x 20 inch sheet of paper. It is beautiful paper!! The most I have ever paid for a piece of A4 paper is 80 cents, but it wasn't really really REALLY great paper either, KWIM?

What's so nice about it Jen? Is it hand made? I'll scan my papers and show them to you - but the sequined paper I was referring to is amazing!

I'll admit that I don't think I have ever seen anything like what you have described Saj.

The paper I bought is indeed handmade, and it is a bit crinkly too. I love the texture! It fades back and forth from pink to blues, and has gold and black paint swirls in it. It reminds me of being underwater. I often use it as a background color for my seahorse cards. It is quite thin, but I only fold models that I know will turn out well from it, simply because it is so expensive that I don't want to throw any of it out!

I'd be very interested in seeing some of your "prize" paper! It sounds incredible!

Yeah, that is a very good price! I am paying almost double that for elephant hide.

I used to just fold out of A4/square paper, but now if I see nice wrapping paper or textured paper I'll buy it and make them into small squares. The paper shop in the city centre sells these square templates - so no more need to measure the perfect area of a square, just cut around the template!

my store only has norm-paper.. (a1, a2, a3,etc..)
but that doesnt matther, because i have the choice to cut the paper at my work with a professional paper cutting mashine!

but there are also "cutting-kits" available in shops, with a good plate to cut on and a slicer (medical knife) - you can change the top and its very sharp so you can cut perfect lines

It's a shame that just as I started folding with Elephant hide paper, that the UK paper stores will no longer be stocking it anymore (as mentioned by Rick Beeck on the O-List).

Better spend all my money on getting supplies now!

...i cant believe this... why should they stock out?!

It seems that it might not just be the Uk that might stop selling this paper ; I am told it is imported from Europe (Germany I think), and that the producers are stopping making this lovely paper.

I better have a word to confirm this at my local paper place.

No more elephant hide? Say it isn't so!

I'll have to buy up the remaining stock in my local shop if this is the case.

i am sure they will use another way to import the paper! from someone other..

After the Tanteidan convention, there was an excursion around Japan. We visited a traditional paper-making studio in Kanazawa, where we saw (and eventually had the opportunity to purchase) handmade kozo paper. The sheets, about 70x100 cm, ranged from about £3 up to £15. I bought a few of the cheaper ones, which certainly looked nice; haven't yet got up the nerve to fold any, though.

I don't remember the exact price of a sheet of paper-backed cork I bought a few years ago, but whatever it was I thought lightning would strike as I left the art supply store. On the other hand if I'd bought more I'd still have some to fold! At least I still have my cork Maekawa hourglass which I use as a dried-flower vase.

I sometimes buy expensive paper, but then end up not using it because 'it's so special'. I once bought some washi like paper, and had a nasty shock when my mum mistook it for some scrap paper and threw it in the bin!
