OOOO, big surprise! I made another angel! Box-pleated from 32 by 32 grid. It has fingers by the way.

I've decided to follow everyone else and include the author and folder in each of my posts. Don't ask me what my name stands for. 90% of you will probably pronounce it wrongly.

Yes, I need to get a better camera. The problem is that it absorbs too much light whenever I take pictures. It was nighttime when I took this oicture, so the only source of lighting was the ceiling lights, which was too bright. If I took it directly under the light, all you would see is a fuzzy white object, like when you die. Then I put it under a table. Even then it was too bright! So, in the end I put it inside my sister's black CD rack too take this picture. Sorry if it's too dark now.

By the way, anymore news from your travels to Origami House? Image

Origami House... I was there in April of last year. Just dug up those photos the other day.
It was a great experience, but I didn't have alot of time. And meeting Satoshi Kamiya was cool, but I felt like an idiot, you know, like a dog chasing a car's tire and then not knowing what to do with it once he got it. That's what I was like. I was just there but not quite there. My mind just went blank, like back in school when they put the maths exam paper in front of me...
They must have laughed behind my back when I left, because I acted so stupid, just floating by like a ghost.
And I didn't know Satoshi could understand English, so I asked my girlfriend to translate. I must have also made some silly English comments not knowing he would understand.
I think I saw him smiling when I said to my girlfriend "one day I'm gonna be as good as Kamiya"!!! That smile that says "yeah, whatever"

Try going back there and see if he recognizes you. Then, challenge him to a fold-off and say something like "Back then, I was but an insignificant noob, but NOW, I am the master!" Then see who can fold Ryuzin the fastest. Good luck with that.

In order to expand my flickr empire, er...gallery, I took pictures of all the models of other artist's that I have folded. Keep in mind that they are folded last time so most of them are folded from foil paper. If you want to see them, go to my Flickr gallery. The link is in my signature. Just wondering, how many of you have actually folded this?

This is the Chinese Dragon designed by Pucci Mauro. If you want to give it a shot, the diagrams can be found on his website. http://www.origamimauro.it/index.asp?modelli=6

Thanks for great (and unknown and very interesting) model and diagram!

EDIT: OK, not very well known and not usually presented. :D I checked my X-files...

Today I test folded Kamiya's Ancient Dragon with 50 by 50 cm foil paper.

This means that I DID NOT illegally download the book. Instead, I started my own book printing company and am now selling pirated copies at dirt cheap prices. TAKE THAT JOAS!!!

Yes, I know. It looks like a piece of crap. The damn foil paper was too weak and kept tearing around the belly. It's now covered into scotch tape. The purple dye also came of the foil and got stuck to my fingers. Now I can't get it off. That's 3 hours of my life I'll never get back.

Do not use foil paper, Kamiya Satoshi also do not use it.

Yes I know. I just wanted to test-fold it but I didn't have any other better paper. Unfortunately, foil paper is the best origami paper I can find in shops. EVERYTHING ELSE is too thick!! I'm planning to fold a "display" version out of an 80 by 80 cm sheet of tissue foil.

Here's my latest model, another dragon!

You can't tell from the horrible picture, but it has pleats on the belly and 7 horns on the head. Folded from a 20 by 20 cm square of foil paper. Yes, I used foil paper again. I'm addicted. This is one of my few "original" non box-pleated models I designed, as it uses a unique base. I was playing around with some ideas with printer paper and discovered this base. I managed to shake of my unhealthy obsession of adding fingers and toes to everything I make and just went with it. I quickly refolded it with foil paper, fixing all the flaws, and came out with a pretty nice result.

You should try using a tripod, or attaching the camera to something rigid. Of course, if you have plenty of time to waste, i would also reccomend you to get two lamps at least, some velvet paper (correct name?) and take at least three photos of each angle. Then, open them with photoshop (or similar program) and adjust the levels. After allll that, you should get a very decent photo. if you dont, dont blame me, im still learning also...

Unfortunately, exposing light to foil paper will turn it into a fuzzy blob in the picture. I use the same method you described for taking pictures of some of my non-reflective models, like my Phoenix, one of my best photos. Although instead of using a tripod, I use...boxes. The picture of my dragon was completely stable. The reflective properties of foil gives it the blurry effect. You can see that the blue drawer in the photo is very clear.

The camera was adjusted to take the picture of the blue drawer and the dragon was in the middle way. You have to also make sure that your camera is pointing to the model, not to the background.
And the fuzzy blob... i dont know. perhaps the only solution is to use paper in matt colors.
