Jun Maekawa's Eastern Dragon, from his book "Genuine Origami".







Folded from 35 x 35 cm tracing paper. I've taken some liberties in shaping it, especially the feet and tail.

Today I have made my first sheet of tissue foil (actually napkin-foil, from a really nicely textured napkin I found at a party), which I used to fold my variation on Robert Neale's dragon.






I have also continued folding from Maekawa's Genuine Origami.

Very clean and accurate folding. I love the idea of using a napkin.

Jun Maekawa's Standing Crane, from a fast-food restaurant wrapper.

This is the crease pattern for my Tanystropheus, done rather badly in Paint. I'm trying to add toes (the picture in Wikipedia has five toes on each foot) to each leg and some detail for the head. I'm having some trouble adding toes to the back feet. I like the simple references, as well as the proportions, and all the methods I can think of involve changing one or more of those things or end up not being very elegant.

Any suggestions?

I've been getting into folding miniatures with the scraps of paper that are cut when I cut paper into a square. I've folded John Montroll's Protoceratops so far.



Folded from an approximately 7.5cm square of tracing paper.


I have also folded Fumiaki Kawahata's Caucasus Beetle, twice.





I have come up with another version of the Tanystropheus, which is easier to put toes on. Done rather badly in Paint; I'm too lazy to make a good CP of a model in progress.

Do you have a photo of it? My suggestion is to put a big fat L graft at the bottom left. Keep the layers wide enough that they can work for the tail. Then for the legs, valley them into position or whatever, and sink the graft to make the much smaller toes. Of course, this will also make the tail too long, so you should shorten it.

No, I have another plan for the toes. I'm planning on doing this (yes, another ugly Paint drawing):




This'll make a river between the legs (they are squished together right now) and will make the back legs somewhat shorter (they are too long). Now I have to figure out what length to make these grafts... time for more snowballs.

you should use inkscape for your drawings. they will be a billion times better! seriously.

I find it easier to draw diagrams/CPs by hand. They usually turn out better for me. I've tried Inkscape: I find it awkward.

Traditional crane, folded from 15cm aizomehu chiyogami. It's a beautiful soft cloth-like paper. Creases are hard to see, so you have to fold by feel. It folds well with and without MC.




Daniela Carboni's Baby Dragon, folded from the same paper.




Ronald Koh's Horse, folded from 18cm wrapping paper used to stuff the insides of shoes. It's a wonderful material to fold with once you get rid of the wrinkles. It's also hard to find one without any tears.
